Trump announces U.S. military strikes in Syria

President Trump on Friday announced that he has approved military strikes in Syria against the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

The decision follows a suspected chemical gas attack from the Assad regime on a rebel-held town near the Syrian capital last weekend.

The United States launched the response, along with assurance from France and the United Kingdom, Trump stated.

French President Emmanuel Macron said the operation is currently targeting the "clandestine chemical arsenal" in Syria.

"This evening I have authorized British armed forces to conduct coordinated and targeted strikes to degrade the Syrian Regime’s chemical weapons capability and deter their use," British Prime Minister Theresa May said in a statement.

Trump's announcement immediately preceded reports of loud explosions lighting up the sky in Damascus. Syrian TV reported that Syrian air defenses have responded to the U.S.-British-French attack.

Trump said the U.S. is prepared to "sustain" pressure on Assad until he ends what the president called a criminal pattern of killing his own people with internationally banned chemical weapons. It wasn't immediately clear whether Trump meant the allied military operation would extend beyond the initial nighttime round of missile strikes.

I didn’t write what you quoted.
I think you meant “mouse”.
I’m sure you’re drunk.

I have no problem with splattering bad guys that use WMD. it’s just deranged to suggest that Russia would directly attack the US, France, and Great Britain because we pimp slapped a dictator that just committed your basic war crime.

Perspective. It’s a thing. Give it a try.

Re: “In that event, the better question is what is Putin's plan after he responds with limited strikes against the US and half of Europe?”

No. You re-wrote my question.

I was thinking about Putin attacks on local anti-Assad forces that are funded by the USA.

In any event, western Europe is never going to fight anybody, even if Putin sank a French or UK naval vessel off Syria's coast.

Trump and his advisers would be completely stunned if Putin responded.

If the USA responded violently to Putin's violent response, three nuclear powers - China, North Korea, Iran - would instantly align with Russia, and Hezbollah would threaten to attack Israel with thousands of missiles.

Because there is no verifiable evidence that Assad used chemical weapons, and because there is no logical motive for Assad to use chemical weapons, Trump would have no choice but to back down.

Bottom Line...

Trump has repeatedly humiliated Russia during the last 15 months...

Ukraine related sanctions, two expulsions of diplomats, bizarre accusations of Russian interference in our elections and political system, a previous missile attack on Syria for unverifiable chemical weapons, new sanctions and criminal charges against a dozen Russian moguls, and now a second missile attack on Assad.

How long will Putin endure this humiliation?

My opinion - never bet against a former KGB colonel who has nuclear weapons and three nuclear allies.

“How long will Putin endure this humiliation?”

He wants to be in power. He doesn’t want his country turned into a radioactive wasteland. What good is it to be a ruler of nothing? Think about it.

Not sure on your perspective of “WMDs”...chlorine gas in barrels dropped from a helicopter seems weak when compared to other WMD’s (more “mass destruction” from a 500# bomb). Be that as it may, all I am interested in is effectiveness of action and consistency of statements/logic/campaign promises...both of which are lacking on this topic.

Or the genocide of White farmers in South Africa?

What makes this situation so unique? Especially since there is no genocide in Syria. By Assad, that is.

The only genocide in Syria is being perpetrated by the “rebels” and Turkey.

Nope never have (unless you count pepper spray accidents).
I get it...chem weapons bad! Murder bad! War bad! High explosive weapons bad! Artillery bad! Bio weapons bad! It’s the “selective outrage” that irritates/puzzles me!

OK..then we have a base to work from.

Getting gassed sucks in a big way. Ask any military recruit who went into the gas chamber. You last for maybe...2 minutes for the most hardcore tops. And that’s pretty graceful. Even with weak CS it’s like breathing sand particles on fire. You’d eat a bullet easily if nobody let you out of the box.

Chem is bad. Bio is probably worse (i thankfully wouldn’t know) because you suffer longer. I’d rather that a 500 pounder right in the face.

That stuff is truly nasty.

"How long will Putin endure this humiliation?"

Only a person with much pride would support Syria and Iran in their covetous pursuit.
