Richard Who? Most Libby Pardon Coverage Fails to Mention Original Plamegate Leaker
newsbusters.org ^ | 4/14/2018 | Tom Blumer

Most of the establishment press's coverage of President Donald Trump's pardon of Scooter Libby has not mentioned Richard Armitage, the person who admitted that he first leaked allegedly covert CIA agent Valerie Plame's name to journalist Robert Novak in 2003.

This pervasive failure includes items at the Associated Press, New York Times, the Washington Post, and over 80 percent of Google News stories about Libby.

A 5:41 p.m. Friday AP story by Chad Day and Catherine Lucey also assumed that Trump engaged in nefarious timing:

President Donald Trump issued a pardon Friday to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, suggesting the former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney had been "treated unfairly" by a special counsel. The pardon comes at a moment when the president faces an escalating special counsel investigation of his own.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted the pardon was not intended to send a message to the special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 election, saying, "One thing has nothing to do with the other." But critics noted the timing, coming as Trump fumes over Robert Mueller's probe, which he has dubbed a "witch hunt."

... Libby, Cheney's former chief of staff, was convicted in 2007 of lying to investigators and obstruction of justice following the 2003 leak of the covert identity of CIA officer Valerie Plame, though no one was ever charged for the leak. President George W. Bush later commuted Libby's 30-month prison sentence but didn't issue a pardon despite intense pressure from Cheney.

Pretty much. And Fitzgerald himself was appointed by his great buddy, non other than the King of Slimeballs himself, James Comey.

I would fault Powell more than Armitage. At least Armitage told his boss what happened. It was Powell who was responsible for leaving everyone hanging.

Scooter Libby was convicted of falling into a perjury trap process crime - which had nothing to do with the underlying allegation.

And he wasn’t even the leaker.

only because his account did not match that of a friggin reporter.
——

Or rather because his account of his conversation with Russert matched his conversation with Bob Woodward.

Lots of people recollect an incident differently.

As in Kuroshowa’s “Rashomon” where the characters have different perspectives of what happened.

Human memory is fallible and its natural to expect people to recall details differently. Doesn’t make them liars.

I could go on for hours about what a joke that fake investigation was. Not surprising that the crook Comey was behind it.

When it was happening I was debating a flaming liberal on another site every day.

I kept asking him what crime was committed that started the whole thing. He always said because she was a double naught spy, which she wasn’t. She was a major player in the Kerry campaign and worked at a desk at the CIA. Robert Novak called the CIA and they gave him all the information he wanted OVER THE PHONE. Not much of a spy. . Facts didn’t matter to him whatsoever. Much like most of the media people today.

Exactly. Libby’s account of the conversation with Russert match Woodward’s account of his own conversation with Libby.

Which strongly suggests that Libby misremembered who he talked to, or that it was Russert who mangled it.

...and there was no underlying crime by anyone - much less, Libby - and the prosecutor already was aware of that.

Failed to mention that Patrick Fitzgerald knew Armitage was the “leaker” before investigation began.

Failed to mention that he knew from the start that Valerie Plame was not covered by the Intelligence Identities Protection Act ... so no crime.

IOWs; failed to mention that the only criminal here was Patrick Fitzgerald. Comey’s BFF.

Valerie Plame-—a blast from the past. STROLL DOWN MEMORY LANE.

CIRCA 2017—Valerie Plame: Give me $1 billion and I’ll put an end to Trump’s Twitter account

Remember Valerie Plame Wilson? She’s the former CIA agent who got outed by Richard Armitage in the lead up to the Iraq war.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Why start with a lie? Richard Armitage didn’t leak anything. It was not illegal to reveal her name.
Plame runs around trying to monetize her fame. She hardly keeps a low profile.
BACKSTORY Sid Blumenthal was (is) the conniving Clintons’ bagman-—a $325,000 employee of the Clinton Foundation, hired to (gag) promote Clinton’s presidential legacy. On the side, Sid promoted dubious foreign deals and schemes in which he had a financial interest many of them predicated on the fall of Libya.
Blumenthal was ambidextrous-—emailing Libya foreign policy messages w/ one hand....his other hand firmly in the State Dept cookie jar.
In one (leaked) confidential e-mail to Clinton, Blumenthal was clearly colluding w/ onetime Amb Joe Wilson (Valerie’s husband) to score a bundle of tax dollars.
GAME ON Amb Wilson pumped himself as a ‘director’ of Symbion Power-—an outfit seeking millions of dollars in contracts from an obscure government agency chaired by Hillary....the Millennium Challenge Corp (MCC)....a notorious slush fund.
In September 2010, Hillary ordered MCC to award Symbion $47 million tax dollars for (cough) ‘power projects in Tanzania.’
NEED TO KNOW ......how much of the $47 million tax dollars got to Tanzania after the players divvied it up among Blumenthal, Wilson, the Clintons, Obama?.........
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
lotta corruption in the millenium challenge corp.
“There was no underlying crime. Plame had no law protecting her identity. She worked at a desk. She continued the same job for two years. She only quit because she got a book deal which fell apart once it was learned Karl Rove would not be frog marched off to prison.”
IIRC, she was “outed” by Aldrich Ames and was thus relegated to being a cubicle rat for more than a decade before her name ever came up again.
