The officer, a military veteran, looked inside, saw the weapons and recognized them as illegal,

So much for that oath...

Still butt-hurt over a 16 year grudge!
This guys has some serious issues.
If he hadn’t felt the need to brag about what he had and was capable of doing, this would have been missed.
Is he a felon? If so, this is an example of why most felons should lose their right to vote. Most, not all.

If this nut threatened the school employee with violence, probably the prudent move to seize the weapons.

"Another school employee alerted police to the message, which was left on an answering machine. The call prompted police to make a “welfare check” Saturday at the home of Robert Csak"

So, we are never told what this message was only that it was "threatening". But apparently not "threatening" enough to get a warrant. So they pull the old "welfare check" trick and the cop just happens to see the weapons in plain sight. This was a set up.

If there is enough for an arrest, then make the arrest, don't go fishing.

Welfare check? Bull.

But the cops are in a crappy position. How many folks criticized them when they didn’t arrest the Cruz kid in Parkland or the nut who shot up youtube.

Unless you infringe on someone else’s rights by threatening them.

the article did not mention any firearms or other weapons being involved in the alleged threat, or whether the threat included any imminent danger (and he has a constitutional right to keep and bear his arms)

The article doesn’t state what the threat was, so we have no way to really judge what the Officer knew or didn’t know when he went to the residence. He does have the right to keep his arms. unless he threatened violence with them on this person.

Pump action shotgun and bolt action rifle are “illegal” in NY?
Who knew?

exactly. this arrest could very well have been illegal
and he certainly has a constitutional right to keep and bear his arms... we’d need more facts to analyze if the arrest was somehow legal... meanwhile, what always amazes me is how the mass media prints these articles with their pictures of the confiscated/stolen “big arsenal of highly dangerous weapons”

yes, this guy did have a nice little collection, judging from the pic. hardly an unusual number of firearms, tho, as so many folks have many, many more in their collections or “arsenals”....

at any event, a picture of an (instant-barf and then sick for 3 days) McD burger would scare me a whole lot more

The same goes there. There was more than enough to make an arrest in Cruz's case, if nothing else, a mental hold. In that case, the police did nothing.

If there was enough on the recorded message to trigger an arrest, make an arrest. The welfare check and snoop into the window was bull excrement call.

Heck, they could have used the social media postings of killing animals to nail Cruz for felony animal cruelty.
That alone would have had him out of society long enough.
