Senate to allow Duckworth to bring newborn onto floor

For the first time ever, US lawmakers are reportedly going to let a sitting senator bring a child onto the Senate floor while the chamber is in session.

Senate leaders are expected to approve a resolution filed by Sen. Tammy Duckworth — the first senator to give birth while in office — that would allow her new baby girl to accompany her for the next few months, according to Politico.

The request will ultimately let senators bring children under a year old onto the Senate floor.

Duckworth (D-Ill.) told the website before her daughter was born that new mothers couldn’t be away from their infant “in the first three months” for that long.

Breastfeeding optional?

Breast feeding seems reasonable. Next thing they will want is a changing table at their desk. Most representatives won’t object since the representatives are quite use to the smell.

Children as political props.

Virtue signalling at its most base level.

If Duckworths poll numbers go up democrats will be raiding the abortion clinics to get themselves a new born baby to haul into congress.

Watch...

The baby will start crying every time Mitch McConnell gets up to speak.

I know, because I do...

This is a job, not a social gathering. The child belongs at home or at daycare.

The Senate is a daycare facility.

How many hours a month do senators actually spend in chamber?

Seems to me they are mostly on recess, a shortened work week, etc., taking a break, etc.

Yes, I see why know senator would want to vote against the resolution, but really.

Just like any other liberal, it’s ME FIRST.

Why do WE have to accommodate HER wishes and have the Senate disrupted by a newborn? She should take some time off or resign the job if she can’t do it.

The kiddo could just be in the senator’s office, with a nurse or the father on duty for those few days a month those few days a year that the senate is actually in session. Mom could well see and feed the kiddo on breaks.

One of things I do to quiet crying babies is to tell them “you think YOU have reasons to cry? Wait until you have to pay taxes!”. This might be the only place where that joke won’t get a laugh.

Family Leave act.

This Senator needs to remove herself (and her baby) from the senate for three months then.

The Senate is a daycare facility.

The Senate is a Senior Care facility.

(BTW, she is 50 (fifty) years old.)

So now we will see this elsewhere? A woman working on an oil rig will have to be allowed to carry he baby in a backpack on shift? Just kidding, there are no women working on oil rigs, for some reason that particular glass ceiling hasn’t been challenged yet!
