I have a 7 year old. What advice do you give to conservative parents? I’d welcome any suggestions!
Make sure they understand budgeting, and the relationship between work and money. ...and the difference between earnings and charity.
What jobs is the seven year old currently REQUIRED to do around the house or yard ?
I have a few things we did for our kids. They are 22 and 27 now. Teach them right from wrong. No middle of the road squishy answers. Strong discipline.
Monetary things to do. I used to pay them for no cavities. When they were young cavities cost about 80 bucks. I used to give them 50 for no cavities. Grades were bucks to. D’s and F’s they had to pay me back. Good way to learn money habits.
I’m sure some others will chime in.
Good luck.
Let him/her help with chores around the house. Let him/her be a contributing member to the family. That is what I did with my son, against the wishes of his Mother, my now ex-wife.
My son didnt go to college, but started as part-time at the local Tractor Supply. Seven-years later, his is an experienced and valued store manager.
If you have a boy, tell him to be John Wayne. If you have a girl, tell her to be Margaret Thatcher.

When I had my three boys underfoot, they were EXPECTED to do household chores because EVERYONE was expected to pitch in to keep our household running.
If they wanted cash, they EARNED it through EXTRA chores that needed doing. I kept a ‘Job Jar’ for them and they could pull out a slip of paper and see what the job paid. If they didn’t want that one, they could choose another, but only two, LOL! There are lots of ideas on ‘Mom’ websites for age-appropriate chores for kids.
Of course, there are TWO schools of thought when it comes to allowances/earning money. The other is that kids should be PAID an allowance for basically nothing, so they learn how to handle money. For me? Having them EARN it through extra work made it MUCH more valuable to them and made them into savers because they had to spend their OWN hard-earned money on things they ‘wanted’ versus things they ‘needed’ all which we provided, of course!
It also taught them early the difference between a ‘need’ and a ‘want.’ :)
If you love your childen, discipline them. It's one of the most important ideas in the Old Testament.
