Tuesday’s special election in Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, in the conservative suburbs outside Phoenix, may reveal the depth of Republicans’ political challenges in 2018. Debbie Lesko, the party’s nominee and a former state senator, is favored to win over Hiral Tipirneni, a Democrat and emergency room doctor, in a district that supported President Trump in 2016 by more than 20 points.

Which is strange - why did we stop talking about these? The last several they are hardly mentioned until after the fact. Before, the whole country knew they were going on in individual districts. Remember Georgia 6 last year? Everyone was talking about it for a month ahead of time - every radio talk show, on a routine basis. Now, not a peep. And Democrats keep slipping in the back door ever since these races started being ignored by the conservative media across the board.

Not a peep out of the media about that here in AZ. At least I haven’t seen anything about this.

I don’t think a close margin means much in this election.

I voted (Surprise, AZ) as an early vote, walk in for Lesko.

My brother (Independent) was reminded by me to vote today- he didn’t.

Looks like about a 25%-30% turn out rate.

About 100,000 early votes to date.

Approx. 450,000 registered voters.

35,000 GOP 30,000 DEM 25,000 IND (Tally from a couple of weeks ago = 90K)

Lots of Lesko signs at the major intersections. (signs don’t vote)

Pennsylvania, wasn’t a blue wave (500 vote margin) anymore than Alabama was (no GOPe support/media onslaught/Moore didn’t fight the smears).

Democrats are DESPERATE! (see DNC lawsuit).

I predict Lesko by 7.5 points.

My take is there isn’t a high degree of enthusiasm for Lesko.

I sense some voter apathy in general for this special election.

I’m in TX and have been receiving a TON of emails, from Pence, etc., to support Lesko.

I hope they’re sending these same type emails to people in AZ!!!!

Walkers for Lesko, were hired from out of state. A man from Connecticut, knocked on my door and said others were on the ground in AZ, from Utah. GOP/DC had hired them.

Lesko by 7.5 points (conservative prediction).

Possibly a double digit margin of victory.

Some sense of voter apathy in general.

Lots of Lesko signs at major intersections.

Multiple (+6) Lesko mailings. One or two for her opponent.

Special election is just for two candidates in one race.

Thank you for this. We need a New York thread too. A ton of elections going on there. In fact, if we don’t do well in New York, the Democrats could state over the state house. I hope we do well.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but that looks like its it, Lesko (R) won by about six percentage points. She’s a rookie, and this is an off election, could have been a bigger win, but its enough so it wasn’t a nail biter.
