Vice President Pence praised former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was convicted of contempt of court, as a “tireless champion of … the rule of law” during an event in Arizona on Tuesday.
Pence said at the tax event that he was “honored” by the former sheriff’s attendance, and called Arpaio a “great friend of this president and tireless champion of strong borders and the rule of law,” to cheers from the crowd.

Actually I think he did this to help McSally. It encourages Joe to stay in at the expense of Ward. It is an idiotic move. Joe cannot win statewide. IF this backfires and Joe gets the Nomination the Rats will take this seat. They should be trying to get Joe to step aside. Trump seems to lack a good strategy for Primary picks. If he backed brooks an Alabama we would not have the lost the seat.
The Bush League Republicans want McSallycain as the new Flake.
Joe is being used to crowd out Kelli Ward, who is why Flake is quitting.
I think Arpaio is running third in the Primary polls. I would think either The Fighter Pilot or the Doc could beat Inema
Yeah but what if it backfires and Arpiao is the nominee? It would have been far better not to recognize Arpiao publicly before the crowd.
But if McSally is nominated and the conservatives stay home in November, the Democrats could also win.
Polls I've seen have Arpiao in third place but not by that much - 6 points or so. If it looks like Arpaio is Trump's preferred candidate then what will that do to those results? And the way Pence was talking sure makes it look like a preference for Arpaio.
Kelli has been pounding the pavement for well over a year going all over the state.
I think she would be a great choice.
Ward or McSally can win in November. Arpaio can't. Simple as that.

I think President Trump would prefer Kelli Ward as candidate. I went to a fund raiser for Ward and Sebastian Gorka was the featured speaker. Also rand Paul, Hannity, Levin, and Ingraham have endorsed her for Senator.

Arpaio has zero chance. Ward has issues. She's a risk. McSally has the best shot to beat Sinema.
After the Roy Moore debacle, I don't think Team Trump want to take chances. All the President wants is a "yes" vote. Yes on judicial nominees. Yes on agenda items. He'll get this with any of the three (R) candidates so it's best to back a winner.
President Trump will endorse McSally.
I've seen film of Pence praising Arpaio yesterday. This isn't fake news.
McSally may not be the best choice but she's better than Sinema. McSally can win. Ward can win. Arpaio can't. Simple as that.
