The California Assembly discussed Thursday a bill that would replace Abraham Lincoln or George Washington’s birthday with International Socialist Workers’ Day as a paid holiday.
California Democrat Assemblyman Miguel Santiago introduced Bill AB-3042, which would allow schools to replace Washington Day and Lincoln Day with Presidents’ Day and install an “International Workers’ Day” — conventionally known as “May Day” — as a second holiday.
“I’m aghast that a bill like this would be able to get through committee,” California Republican Assemblyman Matthew Harper said to the Assembly. “Are we in competition to be the laughing stock of the United States?”
“Are we going that far to the left?” Harper asked. “This is ridiculous; this is insane; this is un-American. And for folks who think that the U.S. won the Cold War with the Soviet Union, this makes it sound like we’re going in the other direction — that indeed California is kowtowing to the Soviet domination of the Cold War.”

Govt workers get too many paid days off. Wipe the slate clean & only legally give Veterans Day, Fourth of July, and Memorial day off. If you want any other holidays use leave/vacay time, that’s what it’s for.
P.S. I’m all for quiet Sundays too.

I understand. But, the SCOTUS keeps gaveling that government is not in the religion business. So keep it at a public level of respect to the country, and to those who have served and sacrificed.
Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter have become farcical mercantile monstrosities. Those who wish to partake can, and will. But not on the taxpayers dime.
My whole point is that most government holidays ate really only celebrated by government workers who actually get the day off. The days are given off to government workers with pay and no government work is being done. It’s a gross waste of tax dollars to do this or rather to keep continuing to do this. If government workers want to work for the government then that’s the sacrifice government workers are going to have to make... And government workers are going to have to just take the days off with using vacation time.
Let’s do Hammer Day and then a week later do Sickle Day. Communist worship needs two three day weekends in a row to do it justice.
Washington did more to establish this as an independent country than any other single individual.

A few years ago the creepozoids in Kalifornia government actually debated just how many individual photos of young children would be allowed before one could be charged as a pedophile. Disgusting, but not surprising.
Born and raised in Kalifornia, when it was still Reagan Country. I remember working at Safeway, and back then it was even closed for Easter. Not a paid Holiday, just closed out of respect and reverence.

Are used to love may first when I live there. The illegals ironically chose that day to boycott going to work or shopping. They appreciated the US so much that they wanted to try to cripple the economy.It was the only day out of the whole year where Walmart wasn’t overrun with nonEnglish speaking people, rats running around pulling things off the shelves, and Walmart probably made a profit from less shoplifting.
