Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ deputies are ending President Barack Obama’s last-minute decision to impose the transgender ideology in federal prisons. Obama’s January 2017 transgender policy directed prison officials to allow men to move into women’s prisons if the men claim a female “gender identity.”
Sessions’ revised policy says officials “will use biological sex as the initial determination” when assigning people to either male or female prisons, according to the policy document published May 11 by Buzzfeed.
Critics said Obama’s transgender policy would have created huge risks of rape because few people who say they are transgender have undergone genital cosmetic surgery, and few can pass as members of the opposite sex. For example, Obama’s policy would allow male criminals into women’s prisons and pressure women-who-say-they-are-men to live in men’s prisons.
Sessions’ new policy marks another step in reasserting the normal biology-based legal distinctions between female and male. Those distinctions were being scrubbed from the law by Obama’s pro-transgender policies. Trump has already begun reversing Obama’s pro-transgender policies in K-12 schools, in health care, and the military which now says it classifies soldiers’ sex by using the “bright line based on biological sex.”

You are not being realistic. Obama did too much to fix in a week.
There’s a SIMPLE solution. Have 2 types of prisons
* convicts with a penis
* convicts without a penis
No arguing over the definitions of man/woman, male/female, or anything else. Not ideal from an ideological standpoint (from proponents on either side). But any prisoner who can use a urinal is in the place that best supports their biological needs. And the same for any prisoner who needs a tampon. No need to waste space by building urinals for prisoners who can’t use them or have a tampon supply for prisoners who will never use them.
And if prisons are labeled “penis”/”no penis” there’s no reason for anyone to get bent out of shape by which prison any specific person is placed in - it’s verifiable and facilities are catered to their needs.
I’ll accept that there may be a few prisoners (literally single digits at any time) prisoners who have a penis and need a tampon. But let’s set policies on 99+% of the population and accomodate the outliers rather than the other way around. We have way too many laws for hundreds or dozens of individuals that have an impact on 300 million people (increased spending/taxes if no direct effect on our lives).
The majority should not dictate to the minority (democracy is bad). But <1% should not dictate to 99% either whether it’s the <1% extremely rich or <1% transgender criminals.

Obama’s philosophy was “If it ain’t broke...fix it anyway.” And as usual, the so-called fix creates more problems. I started in NY State Corrections as an officer back in 1980. I was assigned to Auburn prison, a maximum security prison just west of Syracuse. There was one inmate at the prison, an Hispanic, who I swear the actor Danny Trejo looks like. This male inmate had apparently been getting female hormones, because he had boobs. It was well known in the prison. He was in general population, and no problems ever occurred with him, or over him, during my years there. This inmate could not have been the only male in the prison system that had been undergoing hormone treatments, just as there probably were, and still are female inmates in the system being given testosterone treatments.
