Donald Trump should cancel meeting with Kim Jong Un
Newsday ^ | May 21, 2018 | John M. Crisp

The notion of a Nobel Peace Prize for President Donald Trump is a peculiar one, but only the most petty, hyperpartisan soul could wish for him to fail at the meeting currently scheduled for Jun 12 in Singapore. A lot is at stake.

Events are moving quickly, but at this writing both the meeting itself and its chances for a successful outcome appear to be in jeopardy. The seemingly good-willed rapprochement that began with North Korea’s attendance at the Seoul Summer Olympics has largely evaporated in the last few days. North Korea has threatened to pull out of the meeting in Singapore, and Trump is saying what he often says: “We’ll see what happens.”

A meeting between Kim Jong Un and Trump was an improbable proposition from the beginning. Ordinarily the foundation for such a meeting is laid well in advance by diplomatic subordinates, whose preliminary work reduces the stakes for a summit between heads of state and helps determine whether such a meeting is feasible....

"I’m not an expert on North Korea or nuclear weapons, and the chances are very good that you aren’t either."

I beg to differ. If I'm anything, it's that, at least circa the Cold War. I have the commendations to prove it.

Trump’s successes are too much for them. We need to bring back insane asylums, and put all the liberals in them.

So why is this idiot taking on every aspect of being the most petty, hyperpartisan soul?

Why? Because he’s a Gerbalist.

It’s now as simple as if the left is against something, we should be for it.

The talk of the Nobel Prize is a pointless distraction. There is no way that the Nobel committee will give the award to Donald Trump, no matter how much success is achieved.

The cartoonist Summers the other day had the Nobel Prize committee announcing that the winner of the Peace Prize was Meghan Markle's father--for not attending the wedding.

DPRK is in a classic stall mood right now just before the talks. It was expected. Best thing for POTUS to do at the first sign of it is to suspend the talks, return to max sanctions, ramp up even more sanctions, and place Chinese banking institutions who are dealing with NK under sanction as well, and state in clear terms this will all be undone and reversed “when and if you return to talks with a committed attitude backed up by actions to CVID, and they will be suspended again each and every time we judge you are stalling again, refusing inspections and the like.”

NK and the great USA are not even on the same level and control over them and the agenda must be seized and not let go of, since they are not sincere and are up to their old tricks. There is no room here for benevolence. We are better and more powerful than that.

Sorry but the Norks will never give up nukes. Best to go full bore, destroy their govt and military and then Marshall Plan them. Either that or just let it leak out that the US has nukes in South Korea and Japan...then watch China crap itself and have them remove their nukes.

Continued sanctions, if effective, will likely foment internal dissent and will probably lead to the downfall of KJU within 18 months. If played right, it might be engineered to bring down the Korean Workers Party, but that one is a long shot and a tough nut to crack.

Nevertheless: The twin extremes of APPEASEMENT on the one hand and ALL OUT WAR on the other, can and should be avoided. This is the wise central path, which the President has played right until now, but there are forces around him who would want to return to the days of quisling appeasement and being needlessly jacked around by the Norks like the Clinton, Bush 2 and Obama administrations before him. Only President Trump can stop that.

The ball is clearly in his court. He must want true denuclearization and an end to the criminal enterprise known as the Kim Family, and not his own accolades, PR victories and snazzy, meaningless awards in European capitals usually reserved for libs, rope suckers and their sycophants.

The stakes are too high to screw it up this time!
