The Internal Revenue Service hasnt accurately cataloged all the components of its highest value hardware and software systems and doesnt have a clear count of who has privileged access to those systems, according to an audit released Monday.
The IRS also likely isnt patching software vulnerabilities on its highest value assets within the 30-day timeframe required for federal agencies, according to the audit from the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
Because the agency doesnt maintain historical data about patching, however, its difficult to say for certain how long vulnerabilities are going unpatched, the audit states.

I.T. at the IRS has always been a train wreck.
There are horrific stories about them in the 90’s.
Billions spent with nothing to show for it.
And they are not held responsible for unauthorized access to our private information.
Jail them all.
I would bet the house payment it is one of their own selling the data. How can you fire a government union thug?
Baloney. I accessed a president’s VA file while I was a work/study there and they were at my desk yelling at me before I had a chance to close it. That was in 1983.
Yes it does. Obama and Clinton.
IRS agents are selling information necessary to those on the outside to file fraudulent tax returns. Two and a half years to fix the mess caused for me and IRS offered not a shred of information about the phony return, nothing.
Congress is not empowered to tax for those purposes which are within the exclusive province of the States. Justice John Marshall, Gibbons v. Ogden, 1824.
"The smart crooks long ago figured out that getting themselves elected to federal office to make unconstitutional tax laws to fill their pockets is a much easier way to make a living than robbing banks." me
"Federal career lawmakers probably laugh all the way to the bank to deposit bribes for putting loopholes for the rich and corporations in tax appropriations laws, Congress actually not having the express constitutional authority to make most appropriations laws where domestic policy is concerned. Such laws are based on stolen state powers and uniquely associated stolen state revenues." me
The IRS is an un-American abomination.
Seems the best career counseling for a young person these days would be to go the home schooled route, never get a social security number and mow lawns and or detail cars for cash, ride a bicycle and keep your cash in a mattress ......... then when your old and frail in need of care go kill a democrat or two for 3 hots and a cot, medical care, tv, internet, etcetera in prison..... life. Just a thought.....
