Menendez hit with protest vote from some Democrats as he and Hugin win Senate primaries

U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez, who overcame federal corruption charges, won his Democratic primary Tuesday but faced a surprisingly strong challenge from an opponent who reported spending no money.

The Democrat will face former Celgene Corp. executive Bob Hugin, who easily won the Republican primary over construction company owner Brian Goldberg.

Menendez, D-N.J., was never in danger of losing. But his opponent, community newspaper publisher Lisa McCormick, had nearly 40 percent of the vote with 99 percent counted.

McCormick, who began and ended the race as a virtually unknown candidate, fared much better than expected.

>> can’t understand why people in this state keep voting for him

NJ is bizarre. It also pays the highest fed taxes per household — in addition to SALT.

I think I read that nearly 40% of the Democrat vote went to his challenger, McCormick. That does not bode well for him moving forward. If the independents in Jersey would stop being so apathetic maybe there’s a chance we can knock this PoS out.

I really hope Bob Hugin can take this guy to the cleaners. He’s dirty as hell.. shouldn’t be too difficult if ya ask me!

Ha, yes nearly 40% - right up there on the article I posted.

If I were Bob Hugin any question I was asked would be answered: “There is only one issue in this election. That is that my opponent is a felon, a criminal, a gangster and incompetent. You don’t need to know anything else.”

New Jersey deserves Bob Menendez. He’s “their kind!” For such a pretty place, New Jersey has a largely human trash RAT population. A corrupt electorate naturally elects a corrupt Senator.

Menendez will win in November. Never mind he’s corrupt. NJ voters don’t care.

Very low turnout in areas of NJ. If Dems came out and voted against Menendez hope this means they will vote against him in November. Perhaps they are Democrats who vote GOP in voting booth

No.

Won’t happen and NJ is True Blue.

No Republican will win a US Senate seat in the Garden State.

Its voting history is all you need to know.

Many in NJ are too uninformed to know about Menendez and his record.

“No Republican will win a US Senate seat in the Garden State. Its voting history is all you need to know.”

Is this your job here - tell conservatives to give it up?

And by the way, tell that Christie, who won his last election 5 years ago. Things have NOT changed that much in NJ since then.

Keep in mind that Menendez is at the TOP of the ticket in New Jersey, since state elections are on odd-numbered years.

Menendez is the ONLY statewide candidate in 2018, and even 40% of Democrats can’t stand him. Don’t be surprised to see this seat turn from “Solid Democrat” to “Leans Democrat” in the near future, and then, quite possibly “Toss Up”.

...and like the article says, don’t be surprised to the Dems make a move to replace Menendez as the polling numbers come in.

Hugin is toast. He simply doesn’t have what it takes to represent NJ. He is not corrupt enough.

NJ voters love them some corruption. Or put differently, they would vote for a cadaver before a Republican. Lautenberg proved that.

Libs are going to use the whole “well it was declared a mistrial” as a way to shirk arguments that he’s unfit and a corrupt scumbag.

What happened with that trial??

I live in NJ 11 . I not only only keep this district red, but I want this vile RAT fired!!! And I take umbrage with the whole “NJ deserves their corrupt politicians” thing. No we do not! There are a lot of conservatives in the state that are FED UP and want change.. And judging by the results of last night’s primary, a lot of them are Democrats.
