Rod Rosenstein’s Subpoena Threat: He’s Conflicted, and He’s Acting Like It
NATIONAL REVIEW ^ | June 13, 2018 12:16 PM | By ANDREW C. MCCARTHY

Posted on 06/13/2018 11:38:11 AM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

The House Intelligence Committee is investigating whether the government has used the Justice Department’s awesome investigative authorities as a weapon against political adversaries. We learned yesterday that, in response to this ... Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein . . . threatened to use the Justice Department’s awesome investigative authorities as a weapon against political adversaries.

That Rosenstein threatened to subpoena the committee’s records does not seem to be in serious dispute...the best explanation for the outburst is that Rosenstein is beset by profound conflicts of interest, and he’s acting like it....

Rosenstein has clung to his role as Mueller’s ostensible supervisor in the investigation notwithstanding that he is a central witness in Comey’s dismissal. He authored a memorandum that, ironically, posits that a troubled official’s removal was necessary “to restore public confidence” in a vital institution. The Trump administration used Rosenstein’s memo to justify Comey’s firing even though there are salient questions about whether it states the true rationale for the firing — precisely the questions Mueller is investigating....

Finally, note that Attorney General Sessions was counseled by Justice Department officials (none of them Trump appointees) to recuse himself under circumstances in which (a) there was no criminal investigation (which the regulations call for in recusal situations); (b) his contacts with Russian officials were not improper; (c) there was scant evidence of criminally actionable collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia; and (d) Sessions apparently had no involvement in approving FISA surveillance of Trump officials, and had less involvement than Rosenstein did in Comey’s firing.

On what planet is it necessary for Jeff Sessions to recuse himself but perfectly appropriate for Rod Rosenstein to continue as acting attorney general for purposes of both the Mueller investigation and Congress’s probe of Justice Department investigative irregularities?

FR has become worse than DU when it comes to defaming members of the Trump administration.

"Sessions was on Tucker Carlson and denied it. Of course."

Countless times Sessions has come to the defense of his good buddy Rod Rosenstein. I can't recall a time he as ever defended President Trump against any criticism...Let that sink in.

On Tucker's show--Sessions defends his hand picked DAG, Rod Rosenstein, when asked about his threats on congressional staffers. Sessions says he doesn't know if it happened, he wasn't in the room. Gaetz's tweet from this morning:

Let’s assume this is true. Isn’t it ironic that a guy who is defying a subpoena from congress to produce records would turn around and threaten to subpoena THEM for records? You first, weasel.

A while ago, NR, as part of their “NeverTrumper” credo, switched from Disqus comments to FB comments. That turned the comments section into nothing but liberal trolls. They then, I think, switched over to a “subscriber only” comment section but by then it was too late.

I canceled my 30 year subscription last year, due to it turning into a Neo Liberal Never Trump ankle-biter mag, with people like Goldberg, French and Williamson writing screed after screed against the current president and his supporters.

I still go to the website, but generally only for McCarthy, Victor Davis Hanson and Conrad Black.

“The best way to control the opposition is to run it ourselves”—Vladimir Lenin

The first step is to control the ‘conservative’ press. NR fell to the trotskyites a long time ago. Many others as well.

Luckily, our great volunteers here always put up the best NR articles - precisely the three gentlemen you mention. I went over to the Facebook NR page and they are getting plenty of pushback from genuine conservatives. (I doubt they care.)

I cannot stand Jonah Goldberg who is not ready for tv with his constant eye blinking and refusal to wash his hair. My heart sinks whenever I see him on Fox.

Defaming is not the same as calling out corrupt, incompetent and worthless Trump Appointess like rosenstein and sessions.

You can no longer comment on an NR article unless you are a subscriber. Low Life Lowry changed it so only people who are already paying them, that is their Nr supporters, get to comment. That is one way of doing away with all the scathing comments that they used to get.

FR has become worse than DU when it comes to defaming members of the Trump administration.

Both Trump himself and folks here on FR criticize Sessions. We're just mirroring Trump's criticisms of Sessions. Your insinuation that folks here are out to get Trump because we criticize Jeff Sessions is nonsense.

And let the record show that you think FR is worse than DU.
