Melendez said any criticism from Trump would be hypocritical since he also posed as someone else in the past: as a media spokesman named John Miller who bragged about himself, The Washington Post reported.
He believes the Secret Service visit is a sign the presidential prank angered Trump.
Its kind of hypocritical for him to be so livid about a
comedy bit, he said, adding, I really had no idea that there could be legal ramifications.
I didn't know it was a crime. Whoa as me.
I got home and two kids who are my neighbors were saying, Hey there were two guys in suits claiming they were from the Secret Service knocking at your door, said Melendez exclusively told The Post Saturday. They showed the kids their badges.
He said he hid inside his house around 11 p.m. when someone knocked again, assuming it was Secret Service making a second visit.
The radio personality reached President Trump on Air Force One by impersonating New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, and recorded the Wednesday exchange for his podcast.
Now, he says, hes nervous.
Im looking out my door every minute and Im getting different attorneys, he said over the phone from his California home.
Infantile children...
Calling Stuttering John a comedian is a bit of a stretch...
I don’t see a crime. It is kinda funny that he got a call from POTUS.
Somebody will roll for it maybe but the President needs a sense of humor on this one.
I would hope so.
Howard Stern would give stuttering John Melendez a segment where he would call him “Hero Of The Stupid”
He had to know that impersonating a Senator to get to the President was a crime. He may be a jerk...but he’s not a dumb jerk.
IF it happened then Secret Service should have hauled him down to a dark room and shined a big light in his face for hours of questioning. Arrest him for impersonating a Congressman. He and the rest of these idiots need to learn this will not be tolerated.
I thought it was him, Avenatti is Stormy Daniels’ lawyer.
Birds of a feather, etc.
This entire left wing civil disobedience temper tantrum needs a hard kick in the ass. Subtle threats, direct threats, hostility, interfering with society... make it hurt.
The comedian in question is an acquaintance of Trump going back many years. Nothing in the call reflects badly on Trump (just the opposite ... he talked to the “senator” just as he does in public... kudos). The only people who might be put out by this would be the Senator’s people and internal WH staffers. My bet, Trump has zero to do with any SS visit.
Oh look, Avenatti stuck his head in another case. Fame whore.
Maybe he will enjoy those body cavity searches everytime he goes through TSA.
Could have been funny but Stuttering John is so lame. Could have trolled but had nothing funny to say except bababooey after Trump hung up.
Why would he be praising Bob Menendez???
Impersonating another person on a call isn’t a crime, but recording it without permission and distributing the recording runs afoul of the law, especially if it is a celebrated person whose image/name/brand is used for commercial purposes.
That being said, Trump should make light of being punked. It is funny, considerong this Stuttering John dude thoroughly expected to catch Trump in some verbal trap. What the call reveals instead is that Trump off camera is just as he is on camera: genuine.
Too bad POTUS Trump wasn’t tipped off that it was a prank.
It would have been great if POTUS Trump yelled “Baba Booey” into the Phone.
