Wallace supposedly called Nixon and told him he could have his Electoral Votes if necessary..................
Narrow victory with a third party candidate, George Wallace, who attracted many conservatives. The big issue was, of course the War in Vietnam, and the demands of the mobs was immediate withdrawal and complete surrender. They lost that argument and they drove millions of conservatives from the Democrat Party. The South have been solid red on election maps since then.
Lets be honest in the 1968 ‘victory’....George Wallace split off tens of thousands of votes in the south from the Democratic Party. Most of that 12-percent of Wallace would have been for Humphrey.
