Sarah Palin is calling on Sacha Baron Cohen to donate all the profits from his upcoming Showtime series to military veterans’ groups after saying she was duped into an interview with the comedian when he pretended to be a wounded warrior.
The Daily Mail reports that the 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee said she unknowingly participated in an interview for what turned out to be Cohen’s just-announced satirical series, “Who is America?”
“This ‘legit opportunity’ to honor American Vets and contribute to a ‘legit Showtime historical documentary’ was requested of me via a speakers bureau,” Palin said.
Palin, 54, says she traveled to Washington, D.C., to speak with Cohen, who she claims “had heavily disguised himself as a disabled US Veteran, fake wheelchair and all.”
The "Borat" star is known for disguising himself to conduct interviews with unsuspecting subjects.
“Out of respect for what I was led to believe would be a thoughtful discussion with someone who had served in uniform, I sat through a long ‘interview’ full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm — but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin,” Palin said.
“The disrespect of our U.S. military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse,” she added.
The former Alaska governor said Cohen, whom she dubbed “shallow Sacha boy,” should go ahead and air the footage.
“Experience tells us it will be heavily edited, not pretty, and intended to humiliate,” Palin said.
She then extended a “challenge” to Cohen, CBS and Showtime: “Donate all proceeds to a charitable group that actually respects and supports American Vets.”
“Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night, but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country,” Palin said.

So what, all she had to do was google this his name/names and voila on wikipedia right there gives all his names used.
Took me one minute to find out who he was.
I don’t know why any conservative still does media interviews. If you have something to say, record yourself saying it and publish it on youtube.
All the media is going to do is filter it, edit it, twist it, for their agenda.

His production team sets up the interview in legitimate terms.
The trick here is the person being interviewed isn't allowed to know or see who he will be interviewed by until the interview begins.
By that time the camera is rolling and the person being interviewed is very confused by what's happening (which is clearly visible in the interviews).
It generally takes some time to realize what's going on; that they're being punked.
I assume he approached her under an assumed name with a fake company. He punked Donald Trump for those who think Sarah is a dunce for falling for this (not that I think you
think that, Buckeye).
Fake name, disguise, fake company thought it checked out and it didn't.
Except this time he could have violated Stolen Valor statutes.
Every interview with a conservative Republican is a set-up and a trap.
Every conservative Republican goes into the interview believing they're going to be treated fairly and respectfully.
They're not.
I wish Republicans would learn to say no to interviews and 'no comment' when a mic is shoved in their face.
True. He was disguised as a disabled veteran and didn't use his real name or one of his familiar aliases.
A highly-skilled media professional might not have fallen for his stunt, but a lot of people without such expertise easily could have.

That is my sentiment too. Only I’m 63 but also 6’3” and would bash his teeth out. My defense would be that he provoked an elderly man with DD-214.

The first half hour of Borat was hilarious. The remaining hour was laced with liberal stereotypes and wasn’t all that funny.
Everything he’s done since then has been sub-mediocre garbage. The one where he plays the queer 19 year old is awful. The Dictator one was “almost” OK, but not very memorable.
I’ll give him some credit ... he does his best to trash anyone regardless of political ideology, but he really likes to target conservatives.

I would assume the intent for the show to make money would fall under the act.
Might fall under the Stolen Valor Act claiming to be a wounded veteran and therefore possessing a Purple Heart.
The article though is unclear if the interview he actually admitted to have been a recipient of one of the awards or was wearing a false medal.
The ones on the list most abused by veterans are one of the 5 Combat action awards. A phony Purple Heart claim is fairly easy to debunk thru an archives FOIA request or Purple Heart registry, but not the combat awards.
