The U.S. Navy dedicated one of its guided missile destroyers to Sen. John McCain on Thursday.
The ship is one of the of two destroyers that were involved in fatal accidents last year in the Pacific.
Today, we add the story of Senator John S. McCain to the spirit of the mighty vessel which already carries the legacy of his father and grandfather, Navy Secretary Richard Spencer said of the honor in a press release.
As a warrior and a statesman who has always put country first, Sen. John McCain never asked for this honor, and he would never seek it. But we would be remiss if we did not etch his name alongside his illustrious forebears, because this country would not be the same were it not for the courageous service of all three of these great men, Spencer continued.
According to the Associated Press, the ship was first named after McCain's father and grandfather after it launched in 1994.
All three generations of McCains have the same name and served in the Navy.
McCain thanked the military branch in a statement on Twitter.
I'm deeply honored to be added to the USS John S McCain namesake along with my heroes, my father & grandfather, McCain said.
I hope the sailors who will serve aboard the USS McCain will find the same fulfillment as my family in serving a cause greater than oneself, the Arizona Republican, who is battling cancer, added.
A garbage scow would be more fitting.
more like they cursed the ship by naming it after mcCain.
This needs to be stopped. Not only did McAmnesty collaborate with the communists captors and make propaganda films which you can see on you tube but he PERSONALLY took the fake fraudulent Steele dossier to the corrupt FIB director Comey to try to bring down our beloved president. I will shed no tear when he dies. NONE!!
Hey! Don’t complain about the Navy naming one of its ships after Senator McCain. Er, Admiral McCain. No, not him. The other Admiral McCain.
John McCain was, after all, one of the very few Cold War aces. Got shot down in, burned up, ejected from, crashed, or destroyed five enemy (er, US Navy) planes. All by himself!
What an insult to the Navy! Phuck McNuts!
hopefully this action conforms to the tradition of only naming ships or monuments after the deceased?
What, did he did?
What a fricken disgrace. Who approved this crap?
Unfortunately, this ship and the U.S.S. Jimmah Cahtuh are doomed!
Did anyone else ever score as a reverse ace (destroying 5 US aircraft)?
John McCain is still embroiled in controversy that his actions embroiled hundreds of his shipmates.
Everyone’s forgiven, and everyone’s a hero deserving of a comeback.
Clintons, McCain, John Kerry...
Can we start a petition to get the other one named after him too?
Well I guess it will be a few years before the ship is renamed “CROCK O DUNG”.
A junky row boat would be more fitting. Hot Wheels size.
The ship was already named for his father and grandfather, so at least two-thirds of it is dedicated to honorable men. Maybe they'll paste little "songbird" stickers on the bulkheads of the officers' head.
A titanic mistake.
At least it keeps the two ‘good’ John McCains in the mix.
Sorta like when Virginia was ‘ordered’ to celebrate MLK day they sorta combined it with LEE-JACKSON day, making it Lee Jackson MLK day....
Why? The navy needs purged.
