Baltimore police have 'stopped noticing crime' after Freddie Gray riots
American Thinker ^ | 07/14/2018 | Rick Moran

A remarkable article in USA Today confirms what common sense and intelligent observation have told us for years.  Immediately following the Baltimore race riots that ensued after Freddie Gray was found dead in the back of a police van, Baltimore cops began to "stop noticing crime."  They still responded swiftly to calls for help.  But the police force turned a blind eye to crimes being committed right in front of them.

The analysis by USA Today examined millions of Baltimore police records and determined that shocking rise in crime occurred that was directly related to a fall in "on view" reports of crime by police.

"Immediately upon the riot, policing changed in Baltimore, and it changed very dramatically," says Donald Norris, an emeritus professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, who reviewed USA TODAY's analysis.  "The outcome of that change in policing has been a lot more crime in Baltimore, especially murders, and people are getting away with those murders."

Police officials acknowledge the change.  "In all candor, officers are not as aggressive as they once were, pre-2015.  It's just that fact," says acting Police Commissioner Gary Tuggle, who took command of Baltimore's police force in May.

Tuggle blames a shortage of patrol officers and the fallout from a blistering 2016 Justice Department investigation that found the city's police regularly violated residents' constitutional rights and prompted new limits on how officers there carry out what had once been routine parts of their job.  At the same time, he says, police have focused more of their energy on gun crime and less on smaller infractions.

"We don't want officers going out, grabbing people out of corners, beating them up and putting them in jail," Tuggle says.  "We want officers engaging folks at every level.  And if somebody needs to be arrested, arrest them [sic]

The inevitable result will be groups like the NOI imposing Sharia “No Go Zones” in the inner cities, as in Europe.

Re> We want officers engaging folks at every level

To paraphrase Mensa candidate, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, the police are simply giving those who wish to destroy and kill space to do that.

I had heard, that tourism in Baltimore was down, after the riots. The major tourist zone at the Inner Harbor isn’t too far from the bad neighborhoods, from what I’ve been told, and people were scared to go there.

I had also heard, that the tourist/convention business in Baltimore was taking a hit after the riots.

I would hate to be mayor or police chief in a place such as Baltimore. You face these no win situations. Let the criminal element have free reign, and you can damage major sectors of the economy, for example. I heard that some businesses in downtown Baltimore were seeking to relocate, after the riots. Their employees don’t feel safe, and/or have been crime victims.

And apparently, judging by their record, nobody wants to play for the Orioles.

If the police don’t have the support of the city office, they have to make the adjustments necessary to not be legally exposed.

They don’t have anyone that has their backs, they ought to go somewhere else for better working conditions.

I would absolutely do the same thing. Look straight ahead when in those neighborhoods that hate me and move on to areas that appreciate my work. Protect them and let the natives police themselves. Those areas that hate the cops can do without.

yep, the Orioles are having a tough season.

They have some no win situations of their own. One is being in a small market. Another is that they don’t have outlying areas to draw from. They are so close to both Washington and Philadelphia.

Why bother?

Very predictable conclusion brought about by race hustlers, enabled by like minded media, going to the mike to accuse police picking on blacks. Meanwhile whites have the good sense to stay away from mostly black areas as crime soars. Tragic result is poor honest blacks do not have the resources to escape their neighborhoods, and are doomed by their “leaders”.

One known result is a recent spike in black hit and run victims. While these people walk within their own neighborhoods, cars speed along at 80mph with drivers knowing the po po have determined to not get involved. All the “dwb” claims have convinced the po po it isn’t worth the hassle they get from the media and black activists.

Sad. But, Democrats can’t stop doing what they have learned brings love from the media and keeps them in power.

Stay far, far away and watch.

What else did you expect.....? On the other hand police should not have free reign either as they have their fair share of bad apples. I realize that it is a fine line not always easy to follow and make the right judgement in a split second.

Fifty years ago LIFE or LOOK had an article on crime in which the police said they would not answer calls in the colored section of town. “Just N-——s cutting up.” was the claim. Their words, not mine.
