European stocks fell Friday, with auto and bank shares among those losing ground as U.S. President Donald Trump threatened a significant expansion in tariffs on Chinese imports, underscoring concerns that a global trade war will crimp global economic growth and corporate profits.
---snip---
European stocks extended losses after Trump, in an interview with CNBC, said hes ready to put tariffs on all Chinese goods imported to the U.S., which would amount to more than $500 billion. Trump had previously said hes looking at targeting $200 billion in Chinese imports, and that would be on top of tariffs already in effect against the worlds second-largest economy, to which China has responded in kind....

Am I a bad person if I find this funny?
I guess this is a “we’re next” sort of thing.
From what I understand we have a 500B trade deficit with the PRCs. So they can’t hurt US as bad as we can hurt Dem:-)
Every container needs to be opened and checked. Thatll get their attention.
Are these the same deadbeats and ingrates that have been stiffing our country for years on their NATO payments?
Going to be a lot of hungry Chinese in the future.
What’s worse than the MSM?
Ans. The Financial Press.
Stock market goes down, reach into the hat and pull out slips of paper that read:
1. “Stocks take a dump on Fed warning yadayada”
2. “Stocks roll back on German vow to counter yadayada”
3. “Stocks peel off recent gains in response to Whoopi’s meltdown yadayada”
Take your pick. It’s all BS.
Easiest day job ever, be a ‘news’ writer for the financial press. Qualifications needed: generate endless streams of crap.
This has been a bug a boo for me for years too. Financial press IS the worst. There is no way to explain 5000 stocks going up or down - all just BS.
Do it Mr. President! I’m willing to pay a little more for stuff, or do without things, if it means straightening out our ridiculous trade imbalances. Fair Trade!
I'll see your puny 500 billion and raise ya 500 billion ya varmit.
What solution are the anti-tariff crowd offering to reduce our obscene trade deficits?
Yeah yeah we have already tried negotiating GENTLY for decades. It has not worked. A robber never goes away by negotiations, he has to be forced out.
Correcto mundo! They hurt us $300 Billion.
We hurt them $800 Billion.
Wonder who will blink first.
2) Abolish the income tax. If we're going to increase one tax (import tariffs) we should reduce other taxes the same amount.
3) Drastic reductions in the size, scope, power, and COST of government.
You tariffholics want to make foreign manufacturing less attractive.
I want to make domestic manufacturing more attractive.
Follow my suggestions 1-3 above, and you can have all the tariffs you want.
Read “Art of the Deal” first. Only then you might understand what Trump is doing. Stop proposing ideas which have zero chance of happening, such as zero income tax, for the next 5 decades.
Blah, blah, blah.
With what aspect of my three suggestions do you disagree?
On another point, I have actually spent time in China and India, and know people personally there. If you think we can compete with them even with zero regulations and zero profit tax, I have a wonderful ocean-front condo in Arizona I will sell you for half price.
do you disagree with
1) a less intrusive government?
2) lower income taxes?
3) a smaller, less powerful, and less expensive government?
Seriously. That any of these three things could be even the least bit "controversial" among supposed conservatives, on a supposedly conservative discussion forum, is appalling.
Why would any conservative disagree with those 3?
But I deal with reality, not fantasy. Tariffs do not have to be passed by congress in current situation.
If you think you can get the current crop of congress critters to pass bills reducing size of government, reduce expense of running government or reduce taxes further, I am afraid you are not in the ball park of reality.
Watch the coming fight over making individual income tax cuts permanent. Be afraid, very afraid, if democRats win the House or Senate in November, of the tax cuts evaporating.
Why indeed?
But I deal with reality, not fantasy.
Blah, blah, blah ... Looks like I've smoked out another big government pseudoconservative ...
