I live in a rural area of Pennsylvania surrounded by farms. In the past (every year) the farmers around me planted corn. This year every field has soybeans planted, not corn. Just an observation...I live (part time) in rural Michigan and here, the farmers plant both soy and corn, as far as I can see. Just a non-professional observation.

Soy adds nutrients to the soil.
I think American Farmers use to grow it instead of letting fields lie fallow.
What they did with the beans I don’t know. Maybe let the cows eat them?
Now they sell them. :)

Corn brings in more money per acre but you can’t grow corn every year without depleting the soil. You have to alternate.
