Donny Deutsch: Trump’s MAGA Really Means “Make America White Again”

On today’s Morning Joe, Donny Deutsch attempted to recast Donald Trump’s slogan, “Make America Great Again,” as an unalloyed appeal to racism. During a segment focusing on Laura Ingraham’s remarks on immigration from earlier this week. Deutsch said:

“Donald Trump, once and for all, we need to just really look at what his slogan, Make America Great Again, means. We know what it means. We know what it meant. Make America White Again. And that’s what that slogan always was.”

A bit earlier, Mika Brzezinski said she was brought to tears watching the clip of President Reagan’s final speech as president, in which he said that, in contrast with immigrants to other countries, “anyone from any corner of the Earth can come to live in America and become an American.”

Along similar lines, Joe Scarborough quoted former CIA Director Michael Hayden, who said: “You read the document, you understand the document, you pledge allegiance to the document, and we shake your hand, and you are every bit as much of an American as me and other people who have been here for 400 years.”

Both Reagan’s and Hayden’s remarks remain true. But the problem is people immigrating to the United States who do not wish to become Americans, and who neither understand nor pledge allegiance to our Constitution.

How can you expect immigrants to understand and pledge allegiance to the Constitution when Dem leaders, and the judges they appoint, ignore rights created by it and create rights not found in it?

Consider the immigration story of your own family. If it’s like mine and that of millions of other Americans, our ancestors who immigrated during the 19th and 20th centuries desperately wanted to become real Americans, and wanted to succeed, and see their children succeed, through hard work, self-reliance, and belief in the American dream.

Compare and contrast with too many immigrants of today, who condemn America while wishing to enjoy all that it offers. Who march through the streets displaying flags of their former homes and claiming America stole their lands. Who reject E Pluribus Unum in favor of multiculturalism.

That’s not what Reagan or Hayden had in mind, but to an unfortunate extent, it is the reality of immigration today.

MAGA is an appeal to follow the example of past generations that came here. They came here to become Americans because they wanted to live the American dream with its promise of peace, freedom, and prosperity. The ones coming in now just want to loot America and are being told it’s okay to do because they immigrated from a shit hole and especially because they have darker skin. The descendants of those people who came here to live the American dream are a major obstacle for them.

Immigration impacts almost every facet of our society including all of the major challenges affecting our country from infrastructure to health care to national security to the national debt. Immigration to the US is a privilege, not a right. And our immigration policies should serve the best interests of this country. We can't continue to import poverty from the Third World.

What really offends these people is the idea of MAGA, because they hate a liberty loving traditional America, and try to clothe their hatred with noble ideals.
