Xu Yimiao writes that China is running out of retaliatory tariffs against the US and has watched other major parties like the EU and Japan close ranks against it. Before the trade war gets more severe, Beijing’s leaders should seek direct talks with Trump, and may have to swallow their pride

“Wait a minute - I had it on good authority that tariffs NEVER worked and that trade wars were ALWAYS suicidal.

You mean I was lied to???”

Yes, the Free Traitors (a franchise of the NeverTrumpers) right here on FR lied to you.

You’re right. I mentioned that it’s a foreign publication, and it’s refreshing to see, but serves to remind me of what might be, if only our media would take reality seriously. I also wish they’d leave their other fantasies for the entertainment pages. Instead, their hopes and dreams get ink on page one, above the fold.

We will have to disagree about Sessions,
One thing this Presidency has revealed about Trump is a carelessness about who he allows to be around him. Consorting with those women and then throwing money at them to go away. Being surrounded by braggarts and leakers. Being loyal and trusting people in the entertainment industry who have stabbed him in the back. Having skeezy advisors like Scaramucci and lawyers like Cohen. Having his daughter in his office circle and she having Jamie Gorelick as an “ ethic advisor”. Keeping thousands of obama appointees after his inauguration. Keeping James Comey as FBI Director when he could have had his resignation on inauguration day. Being suckered or pressured into choosing losers like Sessions who Peter Principled at the Senate, and is in way over his head as AG.

Scaramucci, for one, served a particular purpose and was a tactic well known in the world of corporate takeovers amd amagamation ofindustries. You buy a couple of business you want to merge which leaves you with excess top brass which you do not want to fire. You hire a new overall boss to “manage the transition.” The new guy is only temporary as he is there to make things miserable for the excess brass to the point they quit. When Management has been self purged the new boss quits of is “fired,” often apparently rancorously so that the remaining useful managers decide the new owner is on their side after all.
