I hesitate to use the word “it” in reference to any human being. Even a real freak show. Somewhere underneath all the feather boas, the high heels, the wig and the two pounds of makeup is someone who was born with a Y chromosome. That person is trapped and begging to be let out.
Also, body identity is extremely important for a woman. Far more than for a man. A mastectomy or hysterectomy alters that identity. These ladies feel like an “it” and it isn’t a pleasant feeling, usually through no fault of their own.
No hard feelings, that’s just the way we roll ....
It's a joke, or it's a money-making gimmick. They're "ironic." They aren't meant to be taken seriously as indicating anybody's reverence for Obama or Clinton or Sanders or Trump.

We were taught back in the fifties that the term gender only applies to pronouns and there are THREE genders, not just two. There are masculine pronouns such as he, him, his, there are feminine pronouns such as she, her, hers and there are NEUTER pronouns such as they, them, theirs.
