FED up with creeping socialism, conservatives in BIG push for constitutional convention

It’s Time: There hasn’t been one since the earliest days of our founding, but conservatives — increasingly alarmed by creeping socialism, Left-wing courts, and Democratic efforts to overturn the 2016 election are now turning their attention more avidly towards a “constitutional convention.”

In the days of the Tea Party movement, a book called “The Liberty Amendments” by constitutional scholar, author, talk host and former Reagan Justice Department official Mark Levin sparked a modern-day convention movement that would operate much as the first “con-con” which took place from May 25 to September 17, 1787 in Philadelphia.

“I think we’re three or four years away,” former Oklahoma Senator Tom Coburn told The Guardian on Friday at the annual convention for American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC).

The reason for all of the concern is because there are a few blue states left in the union.

They can push for a C.C. but sooner or later the only thing that will solve this is another Civil war. I say we just get on with it and get rid of these as swipes once and for all.

NO NEED FOR A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION!!!! JUST ENFORCE THE FREAKING CONSTITUTION AND DISMANTLE THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL 80% PORTION OF THE $4 TRILLION FEDS!!!

It takes 34 states to convene a constitutional convention (38 to pass a new amendment). It’s a pipedream.

Look at the balance budget amendment; I think 28 have called for it but, if it starts gaining steam, some could rescind their advocacy (e.g., Maryland). Plus, the amendment has different verbiage in each state so it would need to be rewritten, in the same way, for it to be ratified.

Our best hope is to appoint originalist Justices who will interpret the Constitution as it was written. Even then, a new Democrat President and Senate could grow (pack) the Court with “living constitution-ists” to overturn any precedent. Likewise, adding States (i.e., Puerto Rico) could be counter to this end.

It’s more likely that a revolution will have to occur and that would be horrific.

a few years ago I read that when taxes come into DC for education, they come back out to the states after the depart of Ed spends 27% on administrative costs.

Devos and Trump are barking up the wrong tree. Cut federal taxes accordingly and let the states run and fund their own schools. Better yet, vouchers nationwide. but no department of ed.

balance budget amendment

Would do much more harm than good, allowing the Lying Left to force higher taxes because of their out-of-control and mostly unconstitutional spending. It would be a disaster.

a revolution will have to occur and that would be horrific

A revolution IS occurring beginning with Trump, and it is not so horrific for anyone except the bad guys and the Delusional Lying Left.

Just adhere to the constitution we have and quit thinking changing it will fix things. It’s the progressives ignoring the constitution that’s the problem.

I agree with not adding to the Constitution. But we need to repeal/rescind 3 major corruptions that set the stage for our government deteriorating from a Constitutional Republic to an oligarchy (“Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens” by Martin Gilens and Benjamin I. Page of Princeton: http://scholar.princeton.edu/sites/default/files/mgilens/files/gilens_and_page_2014_-testing_theories_of_american_politics.doc.pdf )

The corruptions are: 1. 16th Amendment, reducing us all to serfs by allowing a federal income tax. 2. 17th Amendment, eradicating the influence of the States by taking the election of federal Senators from the State Legislatures and giving it over to general election. House rule in 1928 limiting House membership to 435, effectively replacing our citizen statesmen and women with career politicians, eliminating the voice of the people from influencing government.

Simply repealing/rescinding these three corruptions will rebalance our ship of state and restore self-government. Please see my Federalist Letters to Corporate American at my blog (see signature line).

Once these are effected, then we should re-evaluate to determine if any additions should be made, but not until we eliminate the existing corruption of the founding principles.

There is obviously a profound danger to putting machinery to change the Constitution in place.

That is correct. But interestingly, the Congress has the ability to remove justices from the bench for “bad behavior”. The Constitution does not state that Supreme Court justices are in place for “life”, but for “the duration of good behavior”. Congress has the legal responsibility to identify “bad behavior” and impeach or otherwise remove justices from the bench. I believe that a sound case could be made for “violating the Constitution” as being bad behavior.

Every Supreme Court decision that goes beyond the enumerated powers of the federal government is a violation of the Constitution and therefore, bad behavior.

I do not support a constitutional convention, either.

Now, if you wish to discuss a convention of the states, as set forth in Article Five, and furthermore, if you will do the research and get your facts straight, then we have something to discuss and get behind, as we have already done in Georgia.

Any Constitutional convention, no matter how well intended, will be taken over by socialists and presto-chango, our new Constitution will look like the Russian Constitution - malleable at the will of the ruling socialist party.

17th Amendment repealed the Senate.

The Congress House now has 435 + 100 members.

The House is 535 members split into major minor interests.

“vouchers nationwide”

Pay for your own da*n children. I like the idea that the result of your child tax on me, is you receive 90% illiterate children. Perverse incentive is a good thing.
