Longtime TV news anchor María Elvira Salazar is the GOP frontrunner:

https://mariaelvira.com/

She is Cuban, attractive, eloquent (obviously), pro-life and pro-Israel. She’s probably a squish on immigration, but in a district that gave Trump 39% I’m not going to insist upon a Ron DeSantis.

Speaking of Cuban Republicans, my longshot pickup opportunity in Florida is Carlos Reyes in FL-23. https://www.carlosreyesforcongress.com/ That’s the CD held by former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schulz (the one that had to resign right before the 2016 Democrat National Convention because it came out that she had rigged the primary process for Hillary), and while Trump was held to 35.8% (and Romney to 38% in 2012), the Democrats are poised to split their vote between two candidates and Reyes can get a larger share of the growing Hispanic vote in Broward County and win with 35%-40%. Apart from Democrat nominee DWS (she’s running unopposed for the nomination), liberal Democrat Tim Canova, who did very well against DWS in the 2016 primary, will be on the GE ballot as an independent (there’s also another independent, but he’ll be a non-factor). If Canova can get 40$ of the Democrat vote, Reyes can pull off the upset.

Of course, Reyes first needs to win tomorrow’s primary. His main primary rival is Carla Spalding, who is a nurse and a Navy veteran (good) and a “Realtor” (not so good). http://vote4carlaspalding.com/ Spalding is black, relatively conservative, and has a sexy-nurse thing going for her if her website photos are any indication, but FL-23 may not be the best fit for her. Of course, I never thought that the old FL-22 was a good fit for Allen West, and he won it in 2010, so who knows?

It would be too delicious for words if, after all of these months of media reports of a “Blue (sic) Wave,” the GOP picked up the U.S. Senate seat in FL and actually picked up one net seat in the House from FL.

I'll take her, as long as she doesn't have a daughter who self-identifies as a guy and calls herself "Rodrigo"

I don’t believe that she does (her campaign website shows two attractive daughters), although, of course, neither did Ileana when she first was elected.

After all that I wrote about Carlos Reyes and his primary against Carla Spalding, the winner of the GOP nomination in FL-23 is ... Joe Kaufman, the same guy who lost big in the 2014 and 2016 elections and who only has raised $36,000 (a small fraction of what Reyes and Spalding raised). Kaufman has got his work cut out for him in the GE, and he’s going to need to raise major money in order to have the opportunity to benefit from the liberal split between DWS and Canova.

Darn. Reminds me of the John Q fellow losing his primary to face off against that jerk Grayson.

Open Secrets says he raised 36K, spent 28K, and yet has 387K on hand. WTH? Does that mean it’s his own money and they don’t count it in “raised”?

I skeptical that Canova can take enough votes from DWS. His campaign is broke.

I had hoped for strong challenges for Murphy (ugh that name) and Crist but they have HUUUUUUGE cash advantages.

Salazar v. Shalala is on. Salazar bested the other viable GOP candidate, Bruno Barreiro, by a good margin. Bad year for the Barreiro family. His wife had lost a bid to replace him on the Miami-Dade Commision, losing a special election to rat in an upset, and his brother lost a Commission race last night.
