If you can't or won't pay it off, don't take out the loan.
I never borrowed a single penny for my three degrees, I worked full time while getting them, but tuition at my state university was only $300 a semester then. It’s $4000 now. Inflation hasn’t gone up that much. The only reason tuition has gone up that much is because of the easy loans. Dumb 18-year olds will borrow whatever the university asks.
My Niece’s Ex Boyfriend was complaining about his Student Loans at a Family gathering (before the breakup).
He was going on and on about owing for his Student Loans and how College should be free. My Leftist B-I-L was there joining in on the Socialist screed.
Needless to say they were both a bit distressed when I chimed in. I explained to the Young Man that he chose to sign a Contract and complaining after the fact was childish and irresponsible. He got his Degree and now he gets to pay for it.
It told him is isn’t MY responsibility as a Taxpayer, it’s his responsibility as a Debtor.
“If the only job you can get with your degree is Starbucks, youre going to have a hard time paying it back no matter how much it is.”
I agree. But I am curious what her degree was in and how much she owed. Dead is forever, suicide is a bit of an over-reaction in my view.
College tuition has increased 1000% in the past 35 years for one reason... easy student loans that you cannot escape through the bankruptcy.
The banks don’t have to worry about making good loans. The government covers their paper.
Get the US feral government out of the student loan business and the problem would solve itself.
EVERYTHING government touches becomes astronomically expensive.
I live in a college town. A girl in a similar situation jumped off the I-70 bridge a couple of years ago. Going into debt for an engineering degree or MD is one thing. Going into debt for a photography degree is quite another.
I live in a college town. I’ve seen LOTS of people who should never have gone to college in the first place because they aren’t smart enough buried up to their earlobes in college debt. The universities exploit dumb 18-year olds to get their loans to pay for the tenured gender-studies “perfessers.”
Pretty girl. What a shame. RIP. :-(
I propose a mandatory class for ALL freshmen (or even high school seniors) that teaches kids what kind of employment they can expect from a given degree, how much it will cost, and the student loan payback monthly amount and how log to pay it back. They should also know that the only way to keep from paying it back is to die.
Then point out the opportunities in the skilled trades.
I suspect there was more going on here than just student loans.
You speak the truth.
A photography degree? I’m an amateur photographer and I wouldn’t dream of getting a whole Degree in it.
Suicide should be a capital offense....
“I suspect there was more going on here than just student loans. “
I agree. I’ve been in situations where there weren’t any really big things going wrong, just tons of little things piling up. Some people just go off the rails a little easier than others, I guess.
take a loan out for "knowledge" what are they gonna do, take back yer head???
maybe not a bad idea
The only reason college tuition has gone up over 1000% in the past 35 years (nothing else comes close) is because the feral government hands out loans to dumb 18-year olds like candy. The universities can charge anything they want and the dumb 18-year olds borrow it.
If the loans weren’t guaranteed by the feral government, the banks would be a lot more careful who they made loans to.
Where do you think all that money comes from for the gender and black studies “perfessers” comes from?
It comes from the money borrowed by dumb 18-year olds.
Hate BIG OIL!
Hate BIG PHARMA!
Love BIG COLLEGE!
Love BIG GOVERNMENT!
Evidently her mother accused her unfairly of drug use when her depression was rooted elsewhere. It led to a family argument. Too bad the old hen wasn't more sympathetic.
So of all those issues, student loans were why she killed herself?
I want a lot more evidence than that.. talk about fitting the story to a desired narrative......
Yes. Some people honor their signature and even their word without the signature.
