Paul Manafort's D.C. trial pushed back; evidence from the 1980s can be used against him
The Washington Times ^ | August 28, 2018 | Jeff Mordock

Prosecutors from special counsel Robert Mueller’s team can use evidence from a 1980s Department of Justice review of Paul Manafort’s lobbying activities in the former Trump campaign chairman’s upcoming Washington, D.C., trial, a federal judge ruled Tuesday.

The same federal judge also pushed back Manafort’s trial date to Sept. 24.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson approved the use of the roughly 30-year-old report, which prosecutors argued is proof that Manafort was long aware of the disclosure requirements under the Foreign Agents Registration Act. He is charged with failing to register as a foreign agent under the FARA.

Would any of this be happening to Manafort if he had not worked for Trump for a couple of months?

Well, no. Are they going to dig up his kindergarten teacher and make her testify against him? This is mad.

“Would any of this be happening to Manafort if he had not worked for Trump for a couple of months?”

No. Hence the NO BRAINER justification for his pardon the day after the November elections.

That’s cool. I assume of course that the people who PRODUCED the report can be called as witnesses so they can be cross examined?

Otherwise this is hearsay.

Whoever heard of introducing expert evidence where the accused cannot cross examine the person producing it?

Well, he probably sported a Neru jacket in elementary school, that's a crime

I heard he skipped school in high school. I think the JustUS department should look into that as well.

And the Muslim Jihadist “Family” has just been released all charges dropped..think about THAT when you read this story about Manafort, who is going to get what, 300 years in jail because he worked for President Trump, apparently that’s considered a death penalty offense..but killing a child and planning terrorist attacks at schools and hospitals you get all charges DISMISSED

My first question would be if the DOJ had evidence of wrong-doing back in the 80’s, and did nothing with it, why is it acceptable for them to use it now? Seems kind of irrelevant at this point.

It is so difficult to understand how a man trusted to work with Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, Bob Dole, and especially by our current POTUS would not know to file proper taxes and steer clear of bank fraud.

Knowing that he is being treated like a hardened criminal, being in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day and denied access to books and television is exasperating!!!

I hope President Trump will find a palatable way to either commute his sentence(s) or pardon him.

BTW, I wonder who else (President) Trump might have turned to to wrangle the delegates and manage his convention???

Not really, tax law is voluminous and complicated and not always "settled".

Wonder if we can use Hillary’s signature on the nondisclosure agreements SF312 and other classified training she had.

I am sure she had training before being granted access.

This isn’t prosecution. It’s persecution.

You make a salient point.

I was merely taken aback after Manafort’s legal team expressed such confidence in beating the charges.

I gather that a woman who served on the jury, who was/is a Trump supporter and who spoke with Fox News, reported that save for another woman’s reasonable doubt, Manafort would have been convicted on all 18 counts.

It wouldn’t. I’ll still argue these charges stem from a “poisoned tree” investigation and should be thrown out, considering what we now know.

Transparent. As close to the election as they can get it. Judge Ellis ruined their plans by rushing the prosecutors along, and then the defense rested.

And they’ll probably sentence Michael Flynn in October too, for that’s what all the delays have been about.

For what its worth I don't find manafort in the Senates Lobbying Database.

Okay so he a foreign lobbyist but he not registering his lobbying activity there either.

This isn't going to work out well for Paul - he looking like he pretty clearly wasn't following the law. I don't know much about the foreign lobbying stuff but my domestic data goes back to late 1998 up to yesterday. Perhaps he had a lower level lobbyist file as the lobbyist of record but for 20 years ... umm bad Paul bad looks like your ass is grass.

SELECT name FROM lobbyist WHERE name ILIKE '%manafort%';

versus lets say Tony Podesta

SELECT name FROM lobbyist WHERE name ILIKE '%podesta%';
