It is not just a midwife issue, the issue is many they are referring to are not even certified midwives. Many are relatives, friends, neighbors claiming they delivered the baby so no hospital records. Some were certified midwives who have been prosecuted for making false statements and have admitted they signed off on paperwork for babies they didn’t deliver. There is also at least one doctor in Texas that has come under scrutiny for falsifying records to help illegals get birth certificates for their babies.

This is not really a midwife issue as much as a scamming/fraud issue. Some midwives have gotten themselves involved to make a few bucks but so have others.

My curiosity got the best of me,I checked-—I was born in Boston and I can get my birth certificate on-line,including a Certified one, which is what you would want to get.

It depends on your state but in my state you can do it online, you fill out all the information and if it matches and you can prove you have a right to it then they will mail it. Search your state’s vital records online to see how it works where you are, it should say on the website. Most states or maybe all now keep that at the state level now. Counties usually don’t mess with it, at least around here they don’t.

Something red flagged his birth certificate with the passport office. Common things that will do that is having a birth certificate in 2 countries, also having a birth certificate signed by a doctor or midwife that has been caught and prosecuted for fraudulent birth certificates.

If any of your official documents get flagged you will be asked questions, you may have to provide more proof, it is not something that is only done to illegals. My mother was flagged by social security and had to prove her birth here when she got old enough to file for Social Security. For some odd reason her birth certificate was not filed or not filed properly.

Veteran or not if his stuff gets flagged he does need to take care of the issue.

One reason so many are being flagged now is Mexico has been updating and making their records searchable. Many illegals who were born in Mexico have scammed or their family did to get a birth certificate here. Mexico did not have searchable records so it would not be caught even a few years ago. Now many are flagged for that reason, birth certificates from two countries is something that needs to be explained for sure. I don’t care who you are that will raise eyebrows.

Over the years many birth certificates were issued just on the word of midwife, neighbor, family member, ETC. that a child was born here. Has been a scam for years.

Before WW II a notation in the Family Bible was sufficient to prove who you were because they couldn't conceive of the notion that people would record a lie in their Family Bible. Times, they have changed.

assume that the kid would be born in the United States, and if not, the kid should still be a citizen,

No they shouldn't but sadly it is accepted practice.

The military accepted him as born in Texas because they look at birth certificates.

The military accepted me as a year older than I was because I lied when I joined the National at the request of the Company Commander of the Guard. I never had a Birth Certificate until years after I served. It had several mistakes on it because the Doctor who delivered me at home had no clue and couldn't spell worth cr@p. My name is recorded with totally wrong spelling and father's name is incorrect.......People often were known by names totally different than their legal name and how would they know since records were few. Social Security made record keeping mandatory.

Brownsville is right on the border and most everyone is Mexican. I lived a bit north in Corpus for some time, so definitely familiar with the demographics. With S Padres and Port Isabel building up, the demographics are changing a bit these days. But, just a bit lol

As far as the term ‘webacks’, all my Mexican friends use that term as well.

Yes, Rod laughed at them and spoke of how pathetic the wetbacks were. His beautiful wife didn't feel anything was wrong with him disparaging her countrymen. She knew she was way above their social class.

I am sure the elites in Mexico City think the same way even now. The illegal aliens that come across the border are pawns and peons to them, only good for sending American dollars into the Mexican economy.

“Is it too much to ask a person to choose which country he/she identifies with?”

Some countries don’t give you that option. I don’t know what current law is, but my sister was a dual citizen of the US (military parents, born while stationed in Germany) and Germany. She has obviously lived as a US citizen her entire life. I don’t know if her German citizenship is still valid. If so, she doesn’t have a lot of incentive to work on renouncing something she has never claimed. From her perspective, she has been a US citizen from birth. How Germany classifies her is of no interest to her.

What you said is true for many. As long as they don’t do anything restricted to citizens of a country (voting, passports, advantages for property ownership etc) that citizenship is dormant and if need be (if that’s the case for voting or passport) could be renounced.

I didn’t see the term wetback used by any certain ‘social class’. It was just a matter of fact term and/or sometimes used in jest by mostly the average working class.

By even the average working class.

I knew people from Pharr and Alice area. That’s more the folks I’d hear it from. They were definitely not the upper class folks.
