U.S. is denying passports to Americans along the border, throwing their citizenship into question
PHARR, Tex. On paper, hes a devoted U.S. citizen.
His official American birth certificate shows he was delivered by a midwife in Brownsville, at the southern tip of Texas. He spent his life wearing American uniforms: three years as a private in the Army, then as a cadet in the Border Patrol and now as a state prison guard.
But when Juan, 40, applied to renew his U.S. passport this year, the governments response floored him. In a letter, the State Department said it didnt believe he was an American citizen.
As he would later learn, Juan is one of a growing number of people whose official birth records show they were born in the United States but who are now being denied passports their citizenship suddenly thrown into question. The Trump administration is accusing hundreds, and possibly thousands, of Hispanics along the border of using fraudulent birth certificates since they were babies, and it is undertaking a widespread crackdown.
In a statement, the State Department said that it has not changed policy or practice regarding the adjudication of passport applications, adding that the U.S.-Mexico border region happens to be an area of the country where there has been a significant incidence of citizenship fraud.
But cases identified by the Washington Post and interviews with immigration attorneys suggest a dramatic shift in both passport issuance and immigration enforcement.

They got it backwards. (as usual for a leftist ‘newspaper’.)
Their citizenship is in question, so they are being denied passports.

“official birth records show they were born in the United States but who are now being denied passports “
This is strange.
OBVIOUSLY, their births weren’t properly recorded, and the reason was that there was no baby for the midwives to present to the county authorities. They’re busted.
They always manage to find a veteran for these stories.
The left is already putting that spin out there on social media, that the government is refusing to renew passports of citizens living on the border.
Over the years many birth certificates were issued just on the word of midwife, neighbor, family member, ETC. that a child was born here. Has been a scam for years. I am not sure how it will be proven either way after several years have passed for most of them.
I don’t consider the testimony of a midwife alone as an official source. I’m sure there are procedures and reports to make for it to become official. I get the feeling they weren’t followed and the parents of the child were illegal or undocumented immigrants which further raise suspicions.
This country has been scammed by foreigners faking citizenship so much and for so long that it is unreal. And of course the biggest scam artist opportunity for decades and the state with the least interest in keeping their records legit is not Texas it is Hawaii.
At least some of them also have their births recorded in other countries. That will be a little hard to explain.
Why do you say it is a hoax?
The problem is for years vital records was taking the word of midwives. Some midwives confessed they lied about many of the babies they signed off on. The issue is the same midwives were actually delivering many babies here. At this point it will be hard to determine on some of these questionable birth certificates.
Some of the people flagged by the passport office actually have birth certificates from other countries that show they were born there, along with US birth certificates that show they were born here. Those people will have some explaining to do.
I know Mexico has been getting a lot of their records online in the past several years so that may be what is flagging some of these people for investigation.
I have noticed that! Nothing short of amazing.
As far as I understood there is a precedence for this. I believe in the past when home births were more common, two witnesses who knew the family could vouch in a sworn document that the birth was valid. They even had an I Love Lucy episode about this.

Because Lucy can't produce her birth certificate, which she needs to get a passport for the upcoming trip Europe, she must somehow prove she was born.
They always manage to find a veteran for these stories.
With the MSM, they push a McCain level of fawning praise when pushing their agenda.
#7. It is easy to check someone’s claim of serving in the military (Military ID #, Discharge papers, awards, old paychecks (we have a couple from my son’s service in Iraq), Military ID Photo/card, and for Christians, church records of births and baptisms, etc.
However, this is not a well-thought out policy if what the article says is true. People who live in the US are not going to run away from everything they have if they are legal citizens, so a personal recognizance release would be in order.
As for the woman’s “dying father”, a humanitarian temporary passport would work, esp. if the Mexican Consulate recognizes it for emergencies.
This is no time to “monkey up” our immigration policies. Time to think “smart” and “stay smart” for the good of everyone.
Yep, sounds like a mess. There were a few clues in the article though - things like doctor’s records would help. If the mom was going to the doctor in the US when pregnant, then it would be reasonable to assume that the kid would be born in the United States, and if not, the kid should still be a citizen, but the mom should be committed.
Well Ol Juan at least has a Birth Certificate.
WAY AHEAD of the zer0 and the Certificate of Live Birth and 20+ DIFFERENT Social Security Numbers...
Juan also has a real history.
