Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper says President Trump is lashing out against special counsel Robert Mueller because of his rapidly rising legal pressure.
“The volume and the — to me — irrationality of some of the things he’s saying and his tweets at least tell me that the walls are kind of crashing in on him,” Clapper told CNN host Matt Berman on Friday.
Trump suffered major legal setbacks last week when two of his former confidants were found guilty or pleaded guilty to federal charges.
Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty in New York to bank and tax fraud and violating campaign finance law by arranging hush-money payments for two women, saying he did so in coordination with Trump and his presidential campaign.
And Trump's former campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, was convicted by a federal jury in Virginia on eight counts of bank and tax fraud charges brought by Mueller’s team.
Trump has repeatedly attacked the special counsel probe as a "witch hunt," calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who has recused himself from the Russia investigation, to end the investigation "right now."
Clapper said it’s not just a coincidence that Trump has ratcheted up his attacks on Mueller in recent days.
“I just think that more and more he legally feels like he’s in jeopardy,” Clapper said. “I think what he’s trying to do — to use a military expression — is prep the battlefield for taking some action later and in the meantime, maximum extent that he can, undermining credibility of the investigation.”
Clapper said in June that he hopes Mueller wraps up the Russia investigation soon so that the country knows definitively whether there was any collusion between Moscow and the Trump campaign.
"I think the overarching point here is that this whole issue has to come to a resolution,” Clapper said.
I don't believe Mueller will find any real collusion but it won't matter.
His final report will be filled with alleged links and innuendos; enough for those who hate Trump to keep their collusion narrative alive and use as talking points.

The walls are closing in on Clapper. That’s the real story. He’s just projecting his angst on Trump.
The only irrationality here is this investigation.
There’s NO evidence after two years of Russian collusion.
Period.
Clappers belief that the president is in legal trouble is the most irrational statement here because he’s not. The only charges they can bring up are ones they’ve fabricated or lied about.
It’s a witch hunt and an attempted coup and Clapper is leading the charge.

Mueller will wrap it up one day and declare that there was collusion in the abstract and on pages 497-634, it will repeatedly admit that there was none.
The press will post the abstract and talk endlessly about it. By the time anyone gets to page 497, it will proclaimed to be “old news” and not worth further analysis “and, besides, we already know that there was collusion.”
My beloved thinks Mueller’s Investigation will go the full length of Pres DJT’s term unless he is fired. I tend to agree, though it really irks me just thinking about it. Just wish I could figure out Pres DJT’s thinking pattern. I ask daily for him to have the Lord God’s wisdom for our country and that the Lord God protect him and his family as he does protect America. Really, about all you can do.... aside from VOTING.

This is Clapper wishful thinking. He knows if they are not successful in bringing down Trump, then their illegal activity will become public. Clapper, Brennan, Clinton, Mueller and the rest of the Leftist cabal in the Obama Admin couldn’t undergo anywhere close to the scrutiny that Trump and those associated with him are undergoing without most of them ending up in jail,
