How eight elite San Francisco families funded Gavin Newsom’s political ascent

Gavin Newsom wasn’t born rich, but he was born connected — and those alliances have paid handsome dividends throughout his career.

A coterie of San Francisco’s wealthiest families has backed him at every step of his political rise, which in November could lead next to his election as governor of California.

San Francisco society’s “first families” — whose names grace museum galleries, charity ball invitations and hospital wards — settled on Newsom, 50, as their favored candidate two decades ago, said Willie Brown, former state Assembly speaker and former mayor of the city.

“That” is an “interesting image.
Of squares and a logarithmic chart of various shades of green money?

And, just who were the “Chicago (racist, communist) families” who funded Obola’s rise to stardom?

The guy is damned dangerous, IMHO. Really slick, smarter than he seems.

It was well known long ago that Newsom was the old-money, “downtown” San Francisco candidate.

Not so well known that Feinstein was the same.

Even less well known are other such persons, who come out of the San Francisco “downtown” world of elite law firms and big real estate. One of these is Robert Mueller.

He is very slick.

More important is that he is basically an employee of an ancient, established network of old money.

The saving grace, if any, is that this network is a conservative, don’t rock the boat club of aristocrats. They like things as they are.

The bad news is they have a poor opinion of the American peasantry.

Yes. But a fine art in NYC and SF. San Francisco elites have always been successful in guiding crooked politicians to do their bidding. Article mentions "Willie Brown, former state lawmaker and California Democratic Party leader John Burton and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi". John Burton was a bartender living in my neighborhood, and his congressman brother Phil Burton was well connected to the elites. Phil Burton snagged huge bundles of federal money for projects in the SF Bay Area. Once John Burton became a congressman, he also steered federal money to SF. Willie Brown was no different, but extremely crooked. I worked in city offices and saw how he appointed clueless friends to high-paid positions in order to control departments. I've seen these people up close. The elite buy these politicians, and get a huge return in funding for their pet projects.

No doubt that the elites in Gay Frisco and NYC have made creating and buying politicians into a fine art form.

I wish people would stop calling it Gay Frisco and other slurs. It has fewer gays than some other cities (including NYC), and the gay population has been dropping over the last few decades. Lots of families live in SF, and has seen a large increase of kids in neighborhoods and playgrounds. Only a few neighborhoods have groups of gays, although they are very vocal. Lots of crooks yes, and nasty feminists. But also regular family types. SF used to be a Republican city until invaded in the mid-1960’s by outsiders. And Seattle and L.A. are now probably worse.

an ancient, established network of old money.

Is now and what has always been, behind the attempt to overthrow the USA and make it into an oligarchy.

For instance, L.A. has more than three times as many gays as S.F. So call it Gay L.A. (and it rhymes).
