On the Supreme Court, Democrats finally get their just deserts 31 years later
Washington Examiner - Opinion ^ | 9-11-2018 | Noemie Emery

Are you happy now, Teddy Kennedy? Are you happy, Joe Biden? Are you happy now, Harry Reid? It’s due to the things that you did and said that Donald J. Trump is now naming his second Supreme Court justice in under two years in office. It is your fault that the once courtly process of Supreme Court appointments turned into the blood-and-thunder-eye-gouging drama that we hate and we live through today.

It was 31 years ago, in 1987, that Edward M. Kennedy burst on the floor of the Senate to tell us all that with Robert Bork on the Supreme Court, “women would be forced Into back-alley abortions,” blacks would eat at segregated lunch counters, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the government, and the freedom of millions would hang by a thread.

Before it was over, liberals would raise and spend over $10 million in negative ads (quite a sum at the time) and in lobbying efforts. They would threaten black witnesses with career-ending reprisals and seize and search records of video rentals for signs of blue movies that were never found.

Worth reading the whole article, to get the complete history of how we arrived in today's climate/circus.

One thing I have to say though, 31 years ago the quality of the elected officials seems to be much better than what we have nowadays, even with Teddy Kennedy and Joe Biden etc. included.

I don’t think the Bork charade is a good example to use. I’ve read a number of reports suggesting that Republicans in the Senate at the time were perfectly happy to screw him because they never forgave him for his role in the “Saturday Night Massacre” during the Nixon administration.

dems have gotten worse. They have always been rotten, lying, deceitful, hateful bastards. They are much worse now. Kavanaugh must be confirmed. It will be fun to watch liberal heads break apart, hysterical women screaming at the moon, disrupting hearings, writing idiot articles and making fools of themselves.

“Deserts” Is proofreading dead?

I think this is the plural of "desert," accent on the second syllable, meaning something one deserves, as well as its companion meaning, accent on the first syllable, of an area that gets very little precipitation. "Just desserts" would be the description of a restaurant that only sold cakes and pies, I think.

People depend too much on spell checkers instead of their own eyes.

You think the Kavanaugh hearings were bad. Just wait until Ruthie kicks the bucket.

I don’t really remember since when that the SCOTUS rulings had become a 9-person voting according to their own opinion, political or otherwise (Liberal leaning justices, almost all of them), instead of the strict interpretation of the Constitution as written.

We can have a long argument on that point. Just saying.

“Just Deserts” is the correct usage, as in “Justly Deserved”.

Respectfully, “desert”’ is correct. Look it up. It comes from the same root word as “deserve’”. Not like food as reward. :)

Waiting for the other shoe to drop on Ginsberg.

She's being idolized by the left right now, which leads me to think she's on her way out, long before the Dems could hope to regain the WH.

The left will want to "save" her seat for "someone of like mind" to "retain balance" in SCOTUS.

“31 years? I feel really old.”

This happened three years before I was born!

Yes, he did. In fact, Biden ultimately defended Thomas and pushed him over the finish line, but he never defended Bork....

Kennedy’s office suborned perjury in the Thomas hearings.

One thing that is sadly lacking today is any intelligence and knowledge of the Constitution. The dingbats who people our government couldn’t as a general rule, pass a third grade history or civic test.
