The Civil War on America's Horizon
TAC ^ | 11 Sep 2018 | William S. Smith

Posted on 09/12/2018 7:25:45 AM PDT by oblomov

An uneasiness has overtaken the body politic. There is a sense that a terrible clash is about to occur. The establishment’s contempt for Donald Trump, and their machinations to remove him, are validated by the president’s intemperate counterattacks and the glee that his supporters take in his barbs. These two groups do not simply disagree; they consider each other to be illegitimate and unconstitutional outlaws.

It is true that Trump’s behavior is not befitting his office and that a certain decorum and dignity in the White House is not only desirable but essential. Democracy is no different from any other form of government in that the political order is shaped by the character and example of its leaders.

However, there are also many reasons for Trump supporters to despise the establishment: endless wars in which the brunt of casualties are borne by those from Trump country, grotesque public debt generated by vote buying, a two-tiered educational system that ensures income inequality, pervasive government surveillance, open and lawless borders, and on and on. Our elites bring to mind the French aristocracy under Louis XVI, feigning formality yet, behind the scenes at least, corrupt, incompetent, and ruthless.

Ultimately what is most disconcerting is that the divisiveness is not just about Trump: it’s deeply rooted in two diametrically opposed civic religions. America is no longer one country. These two groups view their national story through different symbolic mythologies.

If it gets that bad, if we lose it, I can leave. I have a place to go.

When I got married, the priest told me he expected a war in 15 years. That would outfit in 2020

Wie Gehts Alex.

Thanks for the comment.

My GG-grandpa, an Abolitionist, sent his sons to fight against his brothers and cousins who were Confederate officers and enlisted.

“First at Bethel, Farthest to the Front at Gettysburg and Chickamauga, and Last at Appomattox”

1st North Carolina, 53rd North Carolina, 26th North Carolina, 53rd North Carolina, 18th Iowa, 30th Iowa...a lot more I don’t know about.

Confederate soldiers in my family: 190
Union soldiers in my family: 90

And that’s just the ones who share my last name. My mother’s family were pioneer Virginians and North Carolinans. And migrated to Indiana and Ohio, with similar histories.

They fought over a the status of a populace that had nothing to do with them - a principle.

Some things are always settled this way.

Only the dead have seen the end of War.

If the Left thinks they can use terrorism to impose a Communist rebellion, well then let’s just settle the issue.

It’s why we have a 2nd Amendment.

I hate this type of shit. Spends too much time directly attacking Trump and regurgitating Never Trump nonsense.

“So, all one has to do is kill at least two of the bad guys and they can never get even.”

Or the bad guys’ agents, because they won’t fight you themselves.

Wie Gehts Alex. Thanks for the comment.

Danke der Nachfrage! (Thanks for inquiring!) Mittelmäßig! (Middling!)

Thank you for your measured response!

I admire your obvious interest in genealogy. My folks all came here after the Second War of Independence.

Any repeat (of 1861-65) would be infinitely worse than that.

Regards,

Good post. Things to consider: a) If the lead starts flying at the media first, 90% chance we get a commie.
b) Everyone forgets the stage before civil wars start: settling of scores. THAT would probably stop an all out civil war.

Good point. Identify those who instigated it then remove them from the equation so peace is possible at some point. As long as they have a voice it won’t be.

The point is using free speech rights can be a double edged sword. Use it wrong and it can cut their heads off. Just because someone can do something doesn’t mean they should.

I can drive my car into a tree at 100 mph. That doesn’t mean I should. I bet there are a lot of deranged leftists and some GOPe types that would disagree with me though.

When Trump leaves the scene the Deep state will be back in charge.

I’m afraid you’re right. Trump is basically a speed bump. God bless him.

This says it pretty well:

Since the 1960s, America’s leaders have been educated through an immersion in the culturally radical and postmodernist narratives that dominate the curricula of our best universities. It has become a primary goal of higher education to sensitize the future establishment to issues of race, gender, and class, and to raise awareness of global challenges such as climate change. Elite education is no longer designed to hand down a common cultural tradition and to serve as an intergenerational transmission belt for the American and Western heritage. In elite institutions, it is taught instead that America is a great obstacle to the empowerment of oppressed minorities and the central driver of global crises. A core teaching in the humanities and social sciences is that the Western heritage represents a monstrous oppression myth conjured up by dead European white men, which, of course, has its political expression in the identity politics of the Democratic Party.

Actually it’s a very good article. You should go back and read the whole thing. Heads up - you may not want to read the comments section but the article itself is very even handed. I like that.

Author sounded like he had a distaste for everything not-deepstate\liberal, and was touching the topic out of a need to hedge his bets on the outcome of his looming civil war.

Interesting, I got a total different take on the article. I thought the author did a great job of showing the issues on both sides and why we will NEVER be able to agree.

Fine.

Let’s have the war.

We’ll win.

Yeah, but digging graves for the 35 million dead is going to be a REAL chore. And if you don't. it becomes a public health problem right quick.
