Ocasio-Cortez to Trump on Puerto Rico deaths: 'My own grandfather died in the aftermath of the storm. Uncounted'

Washington (CNN) — US House Democratic candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez issued a sobering response to President Donald Trump's false claim that 3,000 people did not die in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico.

Following Trump's Thursday morning tweet, Ocasio-Cortez shared her own family's story -- noting that her grandfather died in the aftermath of the storm.

"My own grandfather died in the aftermath of the storm. Uncounted. Thousands of Puerto Ricans have similar stories. They have lost children, friends, & family members. Instead of finger-pointing, INVEST in the Marshall Plan for Puerto Rico + just transition to renewable energy," Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.

Ocasio-Cortez, 28, ran against -- and defeated -- incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York's 14th Congressional District primary race earlier this year.

"3000 people did not die in the two hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico. When I left the Island, AFTER the storm had hit, they had anywhere from 6 to 18 deaths. As time went by it did not go up by much. Then, a long time later, they started to report really large numbers, like 3000..." Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez does not HAVE to substantiate ANY statement she makes, because what comes out her mouth is God’s own truth, and you are a selfish cur to dispute what she says.

The storm killed her grandfather, so there, do you challenge a grieving granddaughter, you filthy swine?

There is nothing a liberal won’t politicize if it means advancing their own agenda.

Some Freeper a while back posted a list of all the stuff Trump sent down there that the media completely COMPLETELY ignored. Anyone reading that list doesn’t think he in fact went OVERBOARD with help is out of their mind.

Took some extra time, but here is the tweet too:

“I’d know. My grandfather died in the storm. Your acts shut schools + starved public services when we needed them most.” - on May 30th

So which was it, during the storm or after?

Puerto Rico is a mostly Catholic country.
Birth, baptism, marriage, and death records are very important to the Church. It should be easy to verify sudden uptick of 3000 deaths if the Church will honestly cooperate . Anybody sleuth-minded?

The death rate in Puerto Rico is 8.7 per 1000. The population is about 3.3 million. That means that in the past year you would expect 29,000 to die. Could you say that more than the expected number died? Maybe. But unless each cause of death was tracked, it would be very difficult to place blame either on the hurricane or post-hurricane supply failures.

The mayor of San Juan refused to accept the bottled water provided. Deaths of people that died from lack of clean water are on her

I was there in the blackout. Am I a dead person walking? Am I a pending fatality?

What a joke. I no longer have words strong enough to come close to describing how much I despise the left in this country.

Since they have such a stellar track record of honest cooperation with authorities. [eye roll]

She said he was in a nursing home in PR which lost power. I suppose facilities like that should have emergency power... I’d be curious if he died in the storm or 3 months later...
