Republican lawmakers have made it clear they have no intention of repealing Obamacare in the current Congress.
Republicans in the nations top lawmaking body have never really wanted to get rid of Obamacare. They would prefer to present the program, which David Horowitz correctly describes as the greatest assault on individual freedom and individual choice in our lifetimes, as a villain and whip up sentiment against it and run against it every election. They view Obamacare as good for the business of politics. They may chip away at it from time to time or tinker with it at the margins, but make no mistake: these creatures of Washington want to keep it in place. This is the Republicans dirty secret.
Republicans have been promising to rip Obamacare out root and branch ever since it was enacted. They ramped up their rhetoric after the allegedly conservative-dominated Supreme Court declared the blatantly unconstitutional Obamacare law constitutional in the incoherent NFIB v. Sebelius ruling of 2012. Americans responded to this government takeover of a huge chunk of the economy by electing GOP-controlled congresses in 2010, 2012, 2014, and 2016, and by electing Donald Trump as president.
Unintimidated by the Left and sneering hack journalists, Trump began the push to bury the misnamed Affordable Care Act and as a result the individual mandate will die at the end of this year. But the bulk of the statute and related rules such as the economically suicidal pre-existing medical conditions mandate remain in place, complete with federal insurance-purchasing subsidies for people who dont need the help, as well as the sclerotic administrative apparatus, and the odious rule that prevents health insurers from competing across state lines.
The top vote-counters in both chambers say repeal is a no-go for the rest of the year. This ought to worry conservatives because there is a good chance that when the new 116th Congress convenes Jan. 3, 2019, one or both of its chambers will be in the hands of the government healthcare-loving Democrats.
So its now or quite possibly never.
Im not going to be asking for another vote on that this year, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn of Texas reportedly said last week when asked about Obamacare repeal. His counterpart in the House, Steve Scalise of Louisiana, offered excuses for his partys inaction. We need to win this election and then get more seats next year.
The Brooks bill:
“This Act may be cited as the Obamacare Repeal Act.
Effective as of Dec. 31, 2017, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act is repealed, and the provisions of law amended or repealed by such Act are restored or revived as if such Act had not been enacted.
All you have to do is change the date.
If the Supreme Court strikes down Obamacare through Texas v. U.S. then there will be nothing left to repeal. Maybe that’s what they are waiting for?
“The individual mandate is gone, that is all that matters”
Uh, no, that’s not all that matters.
For one thing the actual care given to people, assuming the doctor hasn’t stopped practicing, continues to decline. A doctor’s visit is 90% a medical assistant starring into a computer typing away so supply the government all kinds of intrusive information that has nothing to do with why the patient is there.
Why don’t you go talk to some doctors and ask them how the health care system is going? You are in error, mon ami.
Relax. Trump is dismantling the thing. It’ll happen, which is why Hussein has been lulled away from the surfboard and on the campaign trail.
Not sure of the point.
Do it anyway.
on’t count on the court. They own Roberts. He twisted and rewrote he law once; he’ll do it again.
For overturning — Thomas Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh
Against overturning — Roberts, Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, Kagan.
We lose 5-4.
The Gop hasn’t been on the side of America for a long time.
There are thousands of “dead laws” that are still on the books as law. They are the ones without any enforcement funding or orders via executive branch.
Yet these cowardly RINOs had the semblance of a spine when Obama was in charge and they knew they didnt have a prayer in repealing it.
These same scumbags even campaigned on how they would repeal it.
Now that they are in charge, any spine and balls have been happily turned over to the DNC for safe keeping.

Until there’s an admin who wishes to do otherwise (ref: Logan Act vs. Trump transition team vs. Logan Act vs. Kerry)
Dont count on the court. They own Roberts. He twisted and rewrote he law once; hell do it again.

Do it. It’s always been vs. ‘power to tax’. Never the follow-up: “for WHAT?”
Just initiate it from the CORRECT starting point: By what AUTHORITY?
It’s the ? never asked, never answered. A1S8, 9th, 10th.
REALLY want to get into it, add in the 4th (electronic patient records via IRS) and 5th (pools, pre-existing a/o all other welfare schemes).
File one from each point, since we all know the Court *loves* to disregard all points other than their per-conceived notions.
“. I guess they did try. “
But the puke McCain nixed that.
“A doctors visit is 90% a medical assistant starring into a computer typing away so supply the government all kinds of intrusive information that has nothing to do with why the patient is there.”
No kidding...do you smoke? How much? Do you drink? How much?
F you... I feel sick so fix me.
Most Rino uniparty establishment types have always really supported taking more of your money and freedom.
A very few fought valiantly against 0bummercare when it really counted.
“GOP gives up.....their mantra.”
Yeah, we should call them the FRANCE party
“The GOPe never wanted to repeal it.
GOPe = RAT = UniParty = Deep State = Communist
They are ALL the same. Its all about control and the money....especially the money.”
You hit the nail on the HEAD!
So I guess the GOP needs to be repealed and replaced.
Obamacare wont be repealed, because it cant be repealed - or, more exactly, it cant be repealed without ushering in huge Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate.
Members of Congress dont know much, but they can count votes like a pimp in a whorehouse can count money.
Yes, the voters hate Obamacare and want it repealed. That is absolutely true.
Its also true that they want the ability to buy insurance for pre-existing conditions, want insurance companies to be forbidden to cancel policies for non-payment, want zero payment at the point of service, want their adult children who are smoking dope in a dive in Oakland to stay covered, want their States to expand Medicaid without taxes going up, and so on.
In other words, the only two things they hate about Obamacare are paying for it, and the name.
Republicans in Congress understand this perfectly well, which is why theres no plan.
And, not coincidentally, Obamacare (and Romneycare) were the culmination of fifty years of reform, all of which had the purpose of destroying the private sector or making it impossible for the private sector to function, except for boob jobs and a few other things. And, by 2009, the mission was largely accomplished.
Obamacare was merely a temporary mop-up operation, until full nationalization was possible.
And now, it is.
Like Nixon to China, Trump will propose single payer within the year. Its really the only way out at this point.
And before you accuse me of favoring it, realize that it will destroy a lifetime of work for me. I dont like it - I hate it.
But its coming, because its what the voters, bless their pointy little heads, want.
