President Trump in an Oval Office interview with Hill.TV launched one of his most ferocious broadsides to date against Jeff Sessions, suggesting the attorney general was essentially AWOL and performing badly on a variety of issues.
“I don’t have an Attorney General. It’s very sad,” Trump told Hill.TV in an extensive and free-wheeling interview Tuesday from the Oval Office.
The president has long excoriated Sessions for his March2017 decision to recuse himself from the Russia collusion investigation. But on Tuesday he suggested he is frustrated by Sessions' performance on far more than that.
“I’m not happy at the border, I’m not happy with numerous things, not just this,” he said.
Trump suggested he had a personal blind spot when it came to nominating Sessions as the nation’s top law enforcement officer.
“I’m so sad over Jeff Sessions because he came to me. He was the first Senator that endorsed me. And he wanted to be Attorney General, and I didn’t see it,” he said.
“And then he went through the nominating process and he did very poorly. I mean, he was mixed up and confused, and people that worked with him for, you know, a long time in the Senate were not nice to him, but he was giving very confusing answers. Answers that should have been easily answered. And that was a rough time for him.”

Sessions has been a major disappointment. Even on immigration — considering all of his sabre rattling while he was in the Senate.

He’s gone the day after the election. Trump should have done it earlier this year, but now it makes sense to wait a month.
Take it to the bank though. Sessions is toast, along with Rosenstein and likely a few others.

For those that ding Trump for not firing Sessions, he can’t fire him right now. McConnell has said he will not take up another AG until after the mid terms, so if he fires him, likely Rosenstein would be in charge. Yes he could put in a temp AG, but that gains little. After the mid terms, unless Sessions has been doing something great behind the scenes, I think he will be gone, as will Rosenstein and maybe even Wray. The fact that Sessions recused himself from the Russia stuff because he was part of the Trump campaign is crap, especially when he didn’t require Rosenstein to recuse himself with all his conflicts of interest and his part in all the FISA warrants etc.
Sessions is McConnel’s attorney general.

What part of RECUSED don't you understand?
There is no 'Trump and Sessions', there is no 'working behind the scenes', and there is no 'Plan'.
In order for the “stealth Jeff” mental gymnastics crowd to make their “logic” work we have to accept:
1. Sessions lied to the American public when he said he recused himself.
2. Trump is also lying to the American public when he talks about what a terrible job Jeff is doing.
3. They are secretly stacking 600,000 indictments which so far haven’t resulted in a single arrest or charge except for Manafort, Papadaloplis and Flynn.
Maybe; a case can certainly be made that he thinks he is working for the Deep State.
