Democratic strategist Jennifer Holdsworth on Wednesday expressed concerns about possible Russian interference in the upcoming midterm elections, warning of the possibility of escalated meddling efforts.
"I think that there is a genuine concern that there's going to be an elevation in the meddling," Holdsworth, chief revenue officer at targeting firm DSPolitical, told Hill.TV's Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on "Rising."
"I freely admit that there has been no proof that there were actual votes changed in 2016, but look at what the Russians did get away with," she continued.
"When a criminal sees that they can get away with something, they're going to escalate to the next crime, and I think that there is a real possibility that this happens in the midterms," she said.
U.S. intelligence officials have said they are concerned about the possibility of Russia interfering in the November midterm elections after their efforts to meddle in the 2016 presidential election.
Im sure they went to school to critique what they did in the presidential election in 2016. I think they will find more ways to be subtle, and be a lot less noisy than they were the last time," former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper told Politico last month.
An NPR/Marist survey released earlier this week found that one in three American adults said they think a foreign country is likely to impact results in November's midterm elections.
Kelsey Harkness, a reporter at the conservative Heritage Foundation's Daily Signal, pushed back on the survey's findings.
"It sounds like one in three Americans are watching too much CNN and MSNBC, buying into a lot of the conspiracy theories that they're peddling relating to this Russian meddling in the elections," she asserted on Hill.TV.
"They [Americans] do not have faith in our voting system. I think that's very dangerous to our democracy to basically cheapen our votes, and have Americans say that they feel like their votes might not matter," she added.
Good thing the illegal invaders from south of the border do not mess with our elections.
The Russian’s apparently have more American patriotism than Democrats.
Democrats should be VERY worried. “Russia” is going to “steal” 2018 and 2020 just to be entertained by watching Democrats’ emotional meltdowns.
Democrats should just go ahead and accept defeat and save themselves the embarrassment.
China is the country that will interfere on behalf of the Dems who have no reservations about being funneled money by an enemy of the US to them like in the old Clinton days. China wants Trump and the Republicans out in this trade war. The phony story line the dems tried selling that Trump was compromised by China because he owned properties there obviously did not work for them.
Oh, so now when they lose BIGLY, they can ramp up the Mueller Express.
“There was no ‘Russian meddling’ last time and there wont be next time. I’m still waiting for the proof that there was. Based on FBI word?”
I spoke with an FBI investigator a couple of weeks ago who was assigned to the Russian hacking issue during the 2016 election and on an ongoing basis.
I asked him if it was true that Russia is always attempting to do these things. He said yes but that there was a significant uptick in 2016. Even though I am dubious of his politics (which we didn’t discuss) I believe he was being honest.
It is very possible that Russia or Russian hackers increased their ongoing efforts. It is also possible that the NSA spoofed this uptick using tools we know they posses.
It is important to remember that no evidence exists for this affecting the outcome of any election or even a single vote being changed.
Whether Russia did anything unusual or not, it is clear that the Obama administration, in coordination with his political party’s presidential candidate, used anything it could find as a pretext to spy on private citizens connected to the presidential campaign of a rival party.
None of the smoke and mirrors propaganda from the media changes this reality.
Very well stated summation. Id pose also the following? Is it hacking if said organization (DNC) leaves the door wide open Or in the case of Hillary non locked down non governmental server? Its also possible DNC in the act of diversity hired staffers who are infiltrators. Its likely plausible considering Feinstein and he China staffer for years
“Is it hacking if said organization (DNC) leaves the door wide open Or in the case of Hillary non locked down non governmental server? It’s also possible DNC in the act of ‘diversity’ hired staffers who are infiltrators.”
Good point. I wish I’d thought to ask him about the DNC server. I doubt that was actual hacking. As far as Hillary’s server, logic dictates that she did not intentionally allow her server to be “hacked” by China or others since the very existence of the server is something she did not want the public to know about. If she wanted to hand off state secrets to the Chinese government, she would have used less-risky methods.
DiFi’s case is a little different. It does seem reasonable to question whether this was convenient way to pass along classified information for sale. Same could be the case with the foreign nationals of radical ideology given access to (actually put in charge of) highly sensitive computer data.
As will Mexico, as usual.
