VIDEO: 'Very emotional' Melania Trump visits former slave-holding fort in Ghana

An estimated 20 million slaves passed through the dozens of trading forts in Ghana. Cape Coast Castle shipped a majority of slaves held there to America.

Trump spent several minutes in one of the castle’s dungeons, where slaves were held in terrible conditions until they were sent abroad. She walked through the “door of no return,” where slaves were brought inside the fort, and laid a wreath near a dungeon door.

“It’s very emotional,” Trump said. “I will never forget the incredible experience and the stories that I heard. … The dungeons that I saw ... what happened so many years ago, it’s really a tragedy.”

The castle is on the cape coast, and combined with the sound of ocean waves in the background -- a very cinematic setting.

Ping to the First Lady's List.

Must have been powerful.

Cape Coast is the name of the town. The castle is called Cape Coast Castle. I should know. I have been there.

I wish she would use her Africa trip to call public attention to ongoing slavery in Africa today.

It would be a nice compliment to the upcoming plans of Trump and the Feds to mass arrest human traffickers.

See if you can guess who ran the African slave trade.

See if you can guess who is still running it today.

However, the US got only a very tiny fraction of that number of slaves.

I guess the rest went to Europe and other countries. That’s a lot.

I had never heard of this place until last night. I did lot of reading and looked you tube video of the tour. Interesting place in history. Slaves were packed in like sardines, sitting in their own excrement, women and young girls were raped, etc.

This was where black Africans sold other black Africans into slavery?

Wonder if she learned that:

Blacks captured and enslaved other blacks.

Who then sold them muslim slave traders.

Who then moved them and sold them to other muslims for export to the muslim world?

Or

Who then moved them and sold them to Europeans for export to the new world?

I see it was built by Europeans, apparently.

She needs to go to Nigeria and talk to Christian families whose daughters have been taken as modern-day slaves by Muslim militants. Slavery is not dead in Africa anymore. And its not being perpetrated by the West.

America took 377,000 African slaves from 1620 until importation was illegal. At the time of the Civil War there were 4 million black slaves, a growth factor of 10x. Far from a genocide.

More white slaves were taken into Africa than into America during this period.

That is what I understand: So America got a lot more than the US. No one talks about Europe getting slaves of course.
