President Donald Trump spoke warmly about Kanye West ahead of his meeting with the hip-hop superstar on Thursday. I like him a lot, hes been a friend of mine, Ive known him for a long time, Trump said in a phone interview with Fox and Friends.
Hes a very different kind of a guy, I say that in a very positive way those that are in the music business say hes a genius and thats ok with me, Trump said.
Trump credited West for his poll numbers spiking, citing a Reuters poll that showed his support doubling in the black American community.
Hes got a big following in the African-American community, a big following, and he has in a lot of communities, Trump said. He is respected and he is a great guy.
The president has referred to West during his campaign rallies, telling supporters that the superstar gets it.
Hes been a terrific guy, Trump told reporters at the White House on Tuesday. You know, he loves what were doing for African American jobs, for so many different things.
The president said that he looked forward to the lunch with West, which will include a discussion about increasing job opportunities in places like Chicago and reducing crime.
West has signaled his willingness to meet with Trump, urging the black community to work with the president instead of condemning him as a racist.

He said the same basic thing about Omarosa.
Whoopi, Kathy Griffin, HILLARY CLINTON.
They were all fair weather friends.
Sometimes I wonder if the people involved in the shows like the Apprentice even watch the show. Did Trump actually sit down and watch the series Omarosa was in?
It thought she was a gutter snipe.
They are isolated because the media, and the Democrats have been so effective at portraying the GOP as racist; but they know that they have been poorly served by voting for Democrats year after year.
If Trump can break through to that Black silent majority, the Democrats will never win another election.
In 20 years Trumps achievements will be looked back on very fondly and Obamas will not. If Kanye and the few other trump supporters in entertainment can hold on, they get the last laugh.
Kanye is married, has kids, works for his money.....I’m good
What I liked, a lot, about the show is that President Trump was always willing to give a person another chance, even when they messed up. I suspect it's in his nature to respect people as they present themselves, and not expect perfection.
I think must of the show was scripted.
As for Omarosa, I was never quite sure if she was the set-up bad guy, or if that was more her than script.
It was interesting to watch. My wife and I watched it.
I knew of the show because of the “You’re fired!” meme but never watched an espisode. My near total impression of Trump is from the campaign forward, and I take him at his word. If he says someone is a friend, that’s good, but it doesn’t mean he’s going to do everything his friend wants him to do. The same people who wet their pants over Kanye also wet them when Ivanka was going to run everything.
I wouldn't want to be his enemy, that's for sure.
But I never had the desire to go back and watch the Apprentice shows. Probably because I know it was just a scripted reality show and not reflective of the real Trump.
Not a fan of his “music”, but then again I’m not too fond of grand opera either. Happy to have him on our side.

OOPS...
Funny, in that the last two response I’ve made come to the same conclusion.
There’s some truth in that.
The show was hype. Hey, it’s television. They did a good job of it, but it wasn’t profound. The thing is, there’s so little good on TV these days, this was better than many other things.
Trump was a bigger than life character. I couldn’t see myself backing him. One FReeper tried to get me to look at his profile so hard, but I rebuffed him saying I couldn’t see myself backing him no matter what.
I was wrong, and I’ve tried to find that conversation so I could apologize, or at least acknowledge his dead on target assessment in may of 2015.
I became a Trump follower at the escalator appearance. About two months later, I was all in.
Nobody else was presenting a FReeper platform, or anything close. Trump was nailing it, and with vigor. If only the NeverTrumpers had woken up as I did, they would have saved themselves a lot of trouble.
No guy lies about that many things over an 18 month period. Trump was all in on our values.
Couldn’t help but support him.
Tried to be reasoned with the NeverTrumpers, but after Cruz had failed to win enough delegates, I lost my patience with them. Then when Cruz refused to endorse at the Convention, it became so crystal clear I’d picked the right guy.
