How can we help “transgender school children” (i.e., school children with gender dysphoria)? The necessarily frank answer is by keeping them away from the overreaching, uncompromising assertions made by the most vocal — though by no means most representative — trans activists.
That’s the conclusion I’ve come to after debating a trans “celebrity” for The Spectator podcast about my cover story last week.

In my essay, I examine the situation in schools both in the U.K. and the U.S. I start by sharing how, as a teacher in Scotland, I was trained by a government-funded campaign group to promote transgenderism in my classroom, affirm any child who self-declared as transgender and bypass parental involvement:
We were advised to decorate our classrooms with positive images of trans people and to talk about trans celebrities, especially those with large social media followings. This would make gender non-conforming children feel more included. Should they feel excluded, they are at risk of killing themselves.
My biggest concern was this:
Where are the parents in all of this? They are often not told if their child is worried about their gender. During my training, we were told to avoid ‘outing’ potential transgender children to their families. If the child so wished, we might want to keep mummy and daddy out of the loop. Un-believably, this is in line with Scottish government guidelines.
This is also happening in the U.S., of course. This month the New Jersey Department of Education has come out with a new guidance document, which not only advises schools that they don’t have to inform parents of name/pronoun changes but seems to encourage reporting them for child abuse should they object. And how might this play out?

During my junior year in high school, the nuns asked about our plans for after we graduated. When I said I was going to attend State University, I noticed their disappointment. I asked my favorite nun, “Why?” She answered, “That means you’ll leave four years later a communist and an atheist!”
What a giggle we girls had over that. “How ridiculously unsophisticated these nuns are,” we thought. Then I went to the university and four years later walked out a communist and an atheist, just as my sister Katie had six years before me.
Sometime later, I was a young divorcee with a small child. At the urging of my sister, I relocated to NYC after spending years married to an American executive stationed in Southeast Asia. The marriage over, I was making a new life for my daughter and me. Katie said, “Come to New York. We’re making revolution! Some of us are starting the National Organization of Women and you can be part of it.”
I hadn’t seen her for years. Although she had tormented me when we were youngsters, those memories were faint after my Asian traumas and the break-up of my marriage. I foolishly mistook her for sanctuary in a storm. With so much time and distance between us, I had forgotten her emotional instability.
And so began my period as an unwitting witness to history. I stayed with Kate and her lovable Japanese husband, Fumio, in a dilapidated loft on The Bowery as she finished her first book, a PhD thesis for Columbia University, “Sexual Politics.”
It was 1969. Kate invited me to join her for a gathering at the home of her friend, Lila Karp. They called the assemblage a “consciousness-raising-group,” a typical communist exercise, something practiced in Maoist China. We gathered at a large table as the chairperson opened the meeting with a back-and-forth recitation, like a Litany, a type of prayer done in Catholic Church. But now it was Marxism, the Church of the Left, mimicking religious practice:
“Why are we here today?” she asked.
“To make revolution,” they answered.
“What kind of revolution?” she replied.
“The Cultural Revolution,” they chanted.
“And how do we make Cultural Revolution?” she demanded.
“By destroying the American family!” they answered.
“How do we destroy the family?” she came back.
“By destroying the American Patriarch,” they cried exuberantly.
“And how do we destroy the American Patriarch?” she replied.
“By taking away his power!”
“How do we do that?”
“By destroying monogamy!” they shouted.
“How can we destroy monogamy?”
Their answer left me dumbstruck, breathless, disbelieving my ears. Was I on planet earth? Who were these people?
“By promoting promiscuity, eroticism, prostitution and homosexuality!” they resounded.
They proceeded with a long discussion on how to advance these goals by establishing The National Organization of Women. It was clear they desired nothing less than the utter deconstruction of Western society. The upshot was that the only way to do this was “to invade every American institution. Every one must be permeated with ‘The Revolution’”: The media, the educational system, universities, high schools, K-12, school boards, etc.; then, the judiciary, the legislatures, the executive branches and even the library system.
It fell on my ears as a ludicrous scheme, as if they were a band of highly imaginative children planning a Brinks robbery; a lark trumped up on a snowy night amongst a group of spoiled brats over booze and hashish...
The public school system has taken on the entire role of parenting wherever they can. The school across the street from my house offers 3 meals a day and after school activities for k-5th grade.
This is outrageous! Having spent the last two decades impressing upon children the importance of not keeping secrets from their parents or guardians to protect them, the left now wants to set children up for abuse through secret-keeping.
Children must tell parents when situations occur which make them uncomfortable, raises questions or seems dangerous especially with regard to inappropriate attention by others.
Progs have little concern other than political expediency. Impressionable youngsters are used callously by the left leaving the children open and vulnerable to exploitation.
Let’s hear the AMA take this one, or not. Or does politics mean more to them than the welfare of our children?
When I enrolled my daughter age 15 into a new high school due to moving, we met with the counselor and I warned her that If I found out that someone took my daughter to an abortion clinic without informing me, there would be hell to pay. I told her to write it in her file so she would not forget.

Sadly, to ask that question is to answer it.
Bosh. People of any age, sex, or "gender" who want to "pursue happiness" by fondling their genitals in public should be stopped. There are lots of other ways people might want to "pursue happiness" that should be prohibited for the good of a "free country."
I wish young writers would skip the "but everything's okaaaayy" blather. Some things are just wrong, and all normal people know it.
Part of destroying the family. Breaking the bond parent/child and replacing it with the state. But the parents keep the financial responsibility. They do abortions, chop off dix, teach about gay practices and promote *slam without asking the parents if it’s OK.
We can help by not buying into their little fantasies.
Teach them this is a dog, this is a cat, this is a boy, this is a girl.
No, the radical left has control of our schools, media and government at all levels. While most Americans were busy working they took over and are now giving the orders. Eventually physical intervention will be necessary.
It's not a "political issue", it's a crime against humanity.
Once kids got anxious over their arithmetic scores. Now they worry about being trapped in the wrong body. The West is so over.
