...The bottom line
A detailed analysis of many different factors suggests to me that much of the eastern half of the nation should experience a colder-than-normal winter with more snow than normal. Coastal storms in the eastern US will be much more of a threat this winter as compared to last year when La Nina conditions dominated in the equatorial Pacific. Overall temperatures in the Mid-Atlantic region are likely to end up about 1.5-3.0 degrees (F) below-normal for the winter season and perhaps an even more dramatic chill will take place in the Southeast US where overall temperatures may average several degrees below normal.
Snowfall is likely to be at least ten inches above the normal amounts in the Mid-Atlantic region this winter season which could result in 25+ inches in the DC metro region, 30+ inches in Philly and 35+ inches in New York City. Unlike some recent winters, this season is likely to get off to a quick start with some notable cold and snow in the early part of the season. Much of the western third of the nation is likely to experience warmer conditions relative-to-normal; especially, in the Pacific Northwest where it could be several degrees above normal. Precipitation amounts this winter season in the western third of the nation are likely to be near normal to slightly drier-than-normal.

Old Farmers Almanac says wetter and warmer than normal
I predict this Winter will bring colder temps than the Fall and likely we will have snow in the Northeast.
Ask me in April.
Hokey Joe at Weather Bell brought this to our attention a month or more ago.
Oh, goodie./s
Last year we had snow already at the end of October and were still getting weekly snow showers in the third week of April. I live in MN
I live between DC and Philadelphia. I’m looking forward to a strong winter.
I enjoy pitching a tent and snow camping.
Our high school baseball team in PA played the entire season in the 40s low 50s and sometimes 30 degree weather. I think there was one game above 60...but it was drizzling.
Well, it rains every God damned day so if it ever gets cold, we could be screwed. I think I’m finally breaking down and getting a generator. Two years in a row we’ve had to relocate for a few days. It’s a major PITA

The short term report said it will be light today, followed by darkness later on.
T”wo years in a row weve had to relocate for a few days”
Maybe you need to relocate permanently, may improve your entire outlook.
I guess everyone should suicide today because we are inevitably screwed. Less anxiety and suffering before the inevitable .
If the early seventies were the end of the Mini Ice Age and beginning of the eventually labelled Global Warming, then based on my father’s scientific research (Carbon Research Engineer) on historical data available between 1964 and 2011, he concluded that our weather has patterns since the Dark Ages. These two patterns are 24-28 years cooling and 24-28 years of warming. Sunspots, solar flares and the storms on the Sun account for blips that today result in radiation storms (heat) that disrupt communications and warm the planet for a few days to weeks. Back to 1970, if you take 24-28 + 24-28 + 48- 52. 2018 - 1970 = 48 (if you add another 8 years) and the remaining eight years are are the fringe timeframe between the two swings in the less than degree fluctuation of Cooling-Warming. We are currently in the interim period between Warming and Cooling. The next 20-years will be cooler than the previous 30-years. If the data remains relatively constant then anywhere in the ending and beginning periods of the 24-28 curve gives you either cooler temps or warmer. Your mileage will vary. Also, the United States is more forested than before the 1940s, thus C02 and Oxygen levels will offset some industrial activity as targeted by stupid socialists.
Actually I misstated the data available from Europe and the Americas since the 1600s, my dad conducted his body of work between 64-2011. Dad was a save the whales guy and tree hugger for many years, but when he was nearly his end of life he admitted he was wrong in being agnostic and about the democrats. I guess you just outgrow some idiotic beliefs if you live long enough.
Isn’t the definition of winter a “cold and snowy” period? Sheesh!
