US, Mexico agree on plan to handle migrant caravan from Central America

U.S. and Mexican officials have agreed on a plan to handle the approaching migrant caravan making their way up from Central America, a senior administration official told Fox News on Thursday.

over the course of several months, Mexico will request that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) establish shelters along its southern border with Central America, the official said.

Mexican Ambassador to the U.S. Geronimo Gutierrez elaborated on the request, during an interview on Fox News’ “Special Report.”

“Just today, the Mexican government, and this is a very important step, requested the intervention of the U.N., the Office of the High Commissioner on Refugees, to help Mexico review any asylum claims from the members of the caravan,” Gutierrez said. “That will allow us to have a process by which in our border we will make sure that of serving human rights, respecting international law, if there are legitimate claims to refugee, those can be processed in a very clear way.”

If an individual manages to evade the new system and travels through Mexico to eventually cross the border into the U.S., Mexico will now allow those persons to be returned to Mexico, the official told Fox News. Currently, the U.S. has had to house those people until their cases could be adjudicated before being removed to their country of origin.

At the established shelters, U.N. officials will vet the refugees to decide which ones have legitimate claims for refugee status, the official told Fox News.

If a person or persons is determined to have a legitimate claim, they will undergo a U.N. process of being placed in a host country, which could ultimately be the U.S. or any other country that has an agreement with the UNHCR, the official said.

Asylum rules are that they stop at first country. UN can’t send them here unless we agree by having an agreement.

Smoke and mirrors, and Trump should be severely criticized for capitulating to this nonsense.

Are we a country that has such an agreement with UNHCR? If so, we had better get out of that agreement.

they will undergo a U.N. process of being placed in a host country, which could ultimately be the U.S. or any other country that has an agreement with the UNHCR, the official said.

These U.N. “officials” will probably grant asylum to every single one of them.

That was my first thought as well. I would add that since the U.S. is included in the list of 'host' nations, which the UN can select from, be assured that our UN 'friends' will send 99.9% of the so-called refugees to the U.S.

Bottom line: we will spend a ton of money underwriting this UN boondoggle and then spend another ton of money taking in the refugees the UN sends to the U.S., which again will be 99.9% of them.

The optics of this deal may look good to some conservatives. To them I have one word that should pop their bubble - "UN" .

Trump should tell the UN we are full up, no room for more people.

“this is a very bad move by President Trump because inviting UN apparatchiks to determine who is eligible for admittance to our country is a terrible precedent.”

I can’t imagine Trump put a greeter this. He has been anti UN the whole time, and pro America. He wouldn’t let the UN make our decisions for us. Perhaps the UN could go ahead and make their own decision to send them to some other country besides here.

Oh no, they LOVE us. We give free money, free food, free housing, free healthcare, free utilities, free education.

Our own hurting people can’t get penny one, but if they’re illegal, it’s handed over lock, stock and barrel.

Stop the invasion. Quit giving them good reasons to come here illegally.

Call the military to the border NOW - do not wait.

It cannot be understated just how big of a change this is.

The Supreme Court has upheld the clear authority of the President to defend the national security of the United States. In this era of worldwide terrorism and extremist movements bent on harming innocent civilians, we must properly vet those coming into our country.
The rule of law needs to be used as the standard to govern The chaos theory with resulting ‘butterfly’ effect of unintended consequences is inappropriate to maintain the function of government!

It isn’t. This is. A slow motion train wreck. Once the U.N. verifies asylum, everyone will demand them go to America. NO!!! Or, for every 100 people deported, maybe accept one person? Or make them stay in the U.N. safe zones until they go home. But I am depressed to see that most likely outcome is more people to the US to live off us.
