That is heartbreaking. Been down PCH so many times but not like this. Our friends our all OK so far, we know someone in Pt Dume, don’t know about her yet.

Your friend has probably been evacuated. Fire is at the intersection of Kanan Dume Rd and PCH. A news crew was next to a condo/apartment building that was on fire.

Not surpised you’re smelling it even down there- looks like it’s just everywhere.

Some of the photos on Twitter are beyond comprehension.

“if they get sucked into your attic vents you’re in huge trouble.”

Good Lord.I never even thought of that aspect of the fires.

Stay safe-—and thanks again for that picture-—I’ve sent it to several people-——terrifying.

Embers entering through your roof vents is one of the more common ways that houses get set on fire. There are vents designed to keep embers out, but they aren’t commonly installed. In California they ought to be part of the building code.

A second way that brush fires can ignite your house is via radiant heat transmitting through your windows and setting fire to drapes, fabric, paper. Fire rated shutters can help defend against this.

Roof overhangs and eaves are another weak link. Super heated air collects under overhangs and can ignite the building itself.

Clearing a perimeter zone around your house is another need. Don’t have anything near the house that can catch fire.

Address these issues and you have a chance that your house will survive a California brushfire

Wow,keeping a house fire-safe is certainly complicated.

The idea of a huge fire heading my way would absolutely terrify me-——but I was completely unaware of those other dangers.

Thanks for all the great info.

“So many outbreaks, sounds like terrorism arson.”

It’s just because of the Santa Ana Winds. That’s the terrorist. Hot, extremely dry, hard gusting winds. The relative humidity drops to single digits, and the slightest spark will ignite the brush. With a 40 mile per hour wind at its back it creates an inferno.

Cannot believe in one afternoon, the town of Paradise is gone.

I can't believe the lame coverage of this event by the lamestream media, Solid barrage on the Attorney General impeachable removal and how it's illegal to bump Rosenweasel out of the Russia probe chain and how awful DJT is being to the Frogs. Little on these giant fires. I do suspect the loss of Tranny Jenner's mansion will get a lot of play.

Talked to a guy that evacuated from Magalia at early this morning. Said he saiw bodies in vehicles burned to the ground as he came down the Skyway. He was with his 86 year old terminal father. Dad didn;t want to go, but he took him away.

He had been to Redding down to Sacramento trying to find a hotel room. He decided to come back to Oroville and try the Casino HOtel. He was in luck, they had a room for him and his father. We were there trying to get an internet signal to process some orders. Internent down all around town. Cell Service next to impossible. And this is in Oroville, over the ridge from Paradise.

Yeah, the internet loss is from an AT&T link that used a repeater up on the ridge that burnt down; T-Mobile still has internet in town there. (A lot of EBT/ATM machines also don’t work because without instant verification, the machines won’t process.)

They’re looking at a replacement system being in place hopefully by Monday. I’m guessing they’re up at Gold Country. Met quite a few survivors in Oroville from Magalia, one was asked by a woman if she could come help clean up afterward, and he just shrugged and replied, just need a broom and a really big dust pan, that’s all that’s left.

Juicy stories about a shooting and incredible coverage of Malibu burning trumps 20,000 people losing their homes and quite likely dozens being killed.

Besides, it’s just rednecks and hicks up there anyway, they won’t further the Democrat agenda. Now let’s hold a vigil and fundraiser for Bruce Jenner’s lost home...

Right now Berry Creek is evacuating driving by my location. Talked to the neighbor and figure it is only matter of time before we get the evac. If it goes through Berry Creek the risk is it will head into Oroville proper. Eating lunch then packing an entrire business...two people three vehicles. Yikes. Well at least we have time before the winds come..50 mph expected.

My brother lives out that way and told me about it. People were trying to flee in their cars and had to abandon their vehicles which were stopped in the resulting traffic jam, the fire was advancing so quickly.

Reading on Twitter they’re about to evacuate Oroville. You going to be ok? Be safe.

Apparently that was incorrect info- Oroville not under evac order as of now.

Death toll now at 23 with 110 unaccounted for/missing.

There is a town hall going on in Chico right now. Winds are expected to hit 50 mph. The situation is fluid. The area above us, in Berry Creek has been evacuated. Heard the traffic going by on our road. 23 deaths. Many found in homes and cars. They have brought in anthropology expects from Chico State to help shift through ruins.

Smoke bad all day. Ash falling tonight like a soft snow. Weird. The city proper of Oroville is safe for the moment. The Sheriff is stressing that. But be prepared for changes. That is the word. Internet and cell service real crappy throughout the county. Like that is something to complain about. A whole town is gone...literally.

We have loaded up the RV with all the important papers and such. The othe vehicle with our fair goods and the other vehicle all the dyes and blanks if we have time. Our assemnbly point believe it or not is Feather Falls Casino. I recommend the Mongolian Grill if you ever get there.

So shocking.

Isn't it better to drive away now? If winds whip up, and Oroville traffic gets jammed, isn't it better to head out before?

So sorry that your part of the world is in jeopardy.

The Lefties took over the forests back when I lived there. They were “back to nature” city folk. Ignored the wisdom of controlled burns, of constant thinning out dead trees, etc. I was so relieved our President wasted no words on sympathy instead naming the truth, just as he did when he said we have all the water we need in Ca but the hippies send it to the ocean!

The West was left to die by Moonbeam and fellow travelers until Trump stood up and is saying, “No more planned destruction of our homes and people!”
