According to a press release sent out by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, nine individuals have been charged "with a dozen felony counts for allegedly offering money and cigarettes to homeless people on Skid Row in exchange for false and forged signatures on ballot petitions and voter registration forms."

"The defendants are accused of engaging in the solicitation of hundreds of false and/or forged signatures on state ballot petitions and voter registration forms by allegedly offering homeless people $1 and/or cigarettes for their participation, prosecutors said. The alleged offenses occurred during the 2016 and 2018 election cycles," the release notes.

"The charges include circulating a petition with false names; use of false names on a petition; voter fraud, registering a fictitious person; and voter fraud, registering a nonexistent person," the LA District Attorney's office said on November 20th.

As noted by KTLA 5, "Kirkland Kauzava Washington, 38, Harold Bennett, 53, and Louis Thomas Wise, 36, each face eight counts and six years and four months in prison if convicted."

Likewise, "Richard Howard, 62, Rose Makeda Sweeney, 42, Christopher Joseph Williams, 66, Jakara Fati Mardis, 35, Norman Hall, 61, and Nickey Demelvin Huntley, 44, each face four counts and four years and eight months in prison if charged."

Not surprised at all in LA. I live in Hollywood Hills (more conservative than many think) and there was electioneering going on in the poll line AND inside the voting area. Needless to say I went off on the supervisor - a little

The fraud could result in a few months or a few years in prison.

But....

Voter fraud is a lot bigger than fraud and theft in large corporations, and bigger than insider trading on the stock markets.

How’s that???

Well, voter fraud could result in electing someone whose legislative agenda might result in legislation and regulations which could result in millions or billions or even trillions being spent on programs which would otherwise have not been implement or acted upon.

Voter fraud pays, and not only to the unfortunate souls who get paid a $1 or cigarettes for their votes.

Voter fraud costs billions and even trillions, and when voter fraud ends up being so costly, a few months or a few years in prison, is a very minor punishment for the humongous crime that was committed. Punishment should be at least lifetime jail sentences. The crime is THAT BIG!!

Try them. If found guilty hang them for treason. If they are not US citizens, shoot them as saboteurs.

Multiply this by 10,000 and you’ll get an idea of the scope of the real problem.

Probably never.

With republicans, if the fraudster is gone, then the problem is gone. They don't follow up with investigations and punishments. They don't have the stomach to hold people accountable. On the other hand, democrats do know how to hold a grudge and relentlessly pursue someone from the other side who they perceive as having done them wrong.

I'm surprised that even the corrupt single party state of California could *find* nine Republicans to charge with this. /s
