Mexico will deport almost 500 migrants who attempted to storm the US border, according to its interior ministry.
The group were rounded up after trying to cross the border "violently" and "illegally" on Sunday, the ministry said in a statement.
Video footage shows dozens of people - including women and children - running towards the fence that separates the two countries near the city of Tijuana.
They were repelled by tear gas used by US border officers.
Mexico's interior ministry said all those who were identified as having tried to cross would be deported immediately.
It added that, "far from helping their objectives", the migrants' actions had violated the legal migration framework and could have led to a "serious incident".

As a result of Sunday's action, the US has also closed the border crossing near the Mexican border city of Tijuana to vehicles and pedestrians.
Mr Trump threatened to close the entire US-Mexico border earlier this week if it was felt the US was going to "lose control" of the situation.
He also said he had given troops at the border the go-ahead to use lethal force if needed.
Mr Trump has deployed about 5,800 troops to the border. He previously described the migrants as an "invasion".

Some here will see it as a defeat because..well...that’s what they do :)
But the majority see that trump IS WINNING on this front.
It boggles the mind that any rational thinking person could have voted D in the house races or ANY race for that matter, with what’s at stake.

I heard an on-the-scene report saying tear gas was only used where the invaders were cutting wire fencing and trying to burrow underneath.

indeed it is! shows that Mexico is taking Trump seriously ... pretty much everyone in the international community has finally figured out that Trump means business and doesn’t bluff ... unlike the fools we’ve had for President we’ve had for the last 30 years ...
equally as important, this INSTANT deportation by Mexico (with no stinking judges or “due process”) of these 500 invaders is going to totally put the kibosh on the other tens of thousands of invaders of trying a stunt like this again ... plus word of this failure is going to reverberate up and down central america, most like resulting in many of the invasion forces falling apart in route, and many thousands of other invaders at the various stages of the invasion giving up and returning home to their shithole countries ... we do not want these ignorant peasants invading our country and sucking off the public teat ... we DO however welcome english-speaking, skilled and/or educated immigrants who legally immigrate here to go to work and who will sign an agreement that they and their families will neither apply for nor utilize public assistance the first five years here as legal immigrants ...
