CNN Wants You to Eat Bugs to Save the Planet

The world has found itself in a “mammoth environmental crisis,” and we will all have to dramatically alter our diets to reduce our impact on the Earth, CNN argues in a story advocating replacing beef consumption with bug consumption.

Discussing the UK’s new “bleeding” burger that is not made from meat, CNN has laid out a few options for getting away from “greenhouse-gas-intensive foods such as beef and toward healthier and more sustainable diets.”

Here are some foods you can eat to reduce your beef intake https://t.co/BNMFUwil3j pic.twitter.com/ddmB4uWXEs— CNN (@CNN) December 9, 2018

Six-legged creatures already supplement the diets of 2 billion people in the world, predominantly in Asia, Africa and Latin America. But the trend is starting to creep into Western cuisine, with some restaurants offering insect-based menus and some mainstream European supermarkets starting to sell edible insect snacks or bug burgers.

Bug Foundation, a startup based in Germany, developed a burger made from mealworms that is now stocked in more than 1,000 supermarkets across Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.

"If you compare insects with beef, for the same amount of protein, you need roughly 1,000 times less water, 10 times less feed and you emit up to 100 times less greenhouse gases," said Baris Özel, co-founder of Bug Foundation.

Springmann, who has carried out research on insects as an alternative to meat, agrees on the environmental benefits, but he is skeptical of the cost. "In high-income countries, insects are actually fairly expensive because they are such a niche product," he said. (CNN)

The article also recommended less extreme options, such as mixing meat with vegetables like mushrooms; replacing beef with chicken or pork; and ditching meat altogether.

The only thing I would eat that has anything to do with bugs is honey. Anything else is involuntary.

I love stories like this. Innumerate idiots selling anything to push their agenda.

Here’s a hint: When it’s less, it’s a FRACTION of.

When it’s more, it’s a MULTIPLE.

Fitting. CNN bugs me.

Not buying in.

When I was in the second grade in 1958, my teacher had some chocolate covered grasshoppers. The other teachers were trying them.

We somehow survived not going that route. I’m thinking we still will.

I was eating a salad a few years ago, and I crunched on something and it had this Piney aromatic flavor... And I wasn’t sure what it was but it was a salad that a lot of stuff in it so I figured it was a something a spice or whatever...

Fast-forward a year or two later, I was on my back deck and it’s screened in and there was a stink bug crawling up the screen so I went and got a piece of toilet paper and I crunchd the stink bug as it was crawling up the screen and I want to throw it away and I got a whiff and I thought... That’s that’s that smell I tasted in that salad.

It’s not about food, it’s about control by the state. Just think about what Michelle Obama did to schoolchildren throughout the country. It’s been reversed and the left isn’t happy. Their experiment failed miserably.

Just right out of Animal Farm. I am sure the pigs at CNN don’t plan to eat the bug burgers but you horses and cows and the rest of proletariat must do so.

“Any B-12 contained in a mammal (or fish, reptile, bird - or indeed any multicellular organism) was obtained by the animal by ingesting a source of B-12”

that source being exclusively the ingestion of bacteria capable of fixing cobalt in the form of methylcobalamin, something that ruminants and some other animals are excellent at, but NOT something humans are capable of ...

humans will die if they don’t consume animal products containing B-12 or synthetic B-12 in the form of a pill of injection ... any diet that requires synthetic supplementation to avoid certain death is clearly not a diet that nature intended ...

You've written nothing contradicting or disproving anything I said.

I think it’s about not using bovines for a food source, as bovines create a lot of methane gas which adds to the greenhouse effect of the atmosphere. However, termites globally produce more gases than any other creatures (combined?) on the face of the planet. It’s a grande design and it is control but it’s not about a food source it’s about fake science.

Makes one wonder about products such as TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein). I would think that vegans would be opposed to insects as a protein source too.

>>They should lead by example and require their on-air personalities to constantly munch bugs while they are broadcasting. This way, everyone can see how good and beneficial this actually is.

nope, instead they are bitching and moaning at President Trump

Trump cancels White House Christmas party for the press

The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion

And to put it in a different light, now, what about that Aussie that just died from eating a slug(?) about 10 years ago?

The elites want you dead. Period.

Eating bugs and global starvation aide that agenda.

>>Did you know that termites can produce naphthalene? They use it to protect their nests from other bugs. Naphthalene, in concentration, can be fatal to humans, just like CO2.

You mean they protect their territory by creating barriers?

>>The only thing I would eat that has anything to do with bugs is honey. Anything else is involuntary.

and yet vegans are against humans consuming honey because it exploits bee workers and stills the fruits of their labour

https://www.vegansociety.com/go-vegan/honey-industry

Honey is probably the product most frequently mistaken as vegan-friendly. There is a common misconception that honey bees make their honey especially for us, but this couldn’t be much further from the truth.

Honey is made by bees for bees, and their health can be sacrificed when it is harvested by humans. Importantly, harvesting honey does not correlate with The Vegan Society’s definition of veganism, which seeks to exclude not just cruelty, but exploitation.

...The importing of honey into the UK also increases our carbon footprint through the emissions associated with transport. Of the honey consumed in the UK, 95% of it is imported, mostly from China and Turkey.

Vegan alternatives
Unlike bees, humans can thrive without honey in their diets. Luckily, there are a whole host of readily-available vegan alternatives for those with a sweet tooth. Date syrup, maple syrup, molasses, butterscotch syrup, golden syrup and agave nectar are all viable options, whether you need a product for baking, cooking, as a sweetener for drinks, or to eat a spoon of out of the jar at the end of a long day.

so go kill and injury and steal from all of the plants you want!
