The German news magazine Der Spiegel has been plunged into chaos after revealing that one of its top reporters had falsified stories over several years.
The media world was stunned by the revelations that the award-winning journalist Claas Relotius had, according to the weekly, made up stories and invented protagonists in at least 14 out of 60 articles that appeared in its print and online editions, warning that other outlets could also be affected.
Relotius, 33, resigned after admitting to the scam. He had written for the magazine for seven years and won numerous awards for his investigative journalism, including CNN Journalist of the Year in 2014.

Remember when?
“Earlier yesterday, before the punishment was decided, Barnicle said in an interview that a bartender had given him the jokes and that he did not know they came from the Carlin book. “I did something truly {expletive} stupid and highly embarrassing,” he said.
“The Barnicle bombshell comes six weeks after Globe columnist Patricia Smith was forced to resign when she admitted she had fabricated all or part of four columns. The departure of Smith, who is black, caused a racial rift and prompted criticism that no action had been taken against Barnicle, a white commentator who has occasionally been accused of inventing characters. But a Globe review of 364 Barnicle columns found no evidence of fiction writing.”
No punishment for all of the fake anti-Trump stories they spewed for about three years running, I bet. Their hate exceeds that of the US lib media.
“Der Spiegel says top journalist faked stories for years”
Was the journalist working for CNN and NBC?
“CNN Journalist of the year 2014.”
LOL. Takes a fake to know a fellow fake.
Every “journalist” aka “reporter” should be required to file a comprehensive set of notes and documentation for each story/article. No more of this “oh I can’t find my notes” or “yes I know I quoted all these interesting man-on-the-street tall tales but I just can’t seem to find the phone numbers to verify these interviews.”
Why is this person not working for CNN or MSNBC?
It’s the perfect job experience!
Isn’t it amazing, top awards left and right, and no one in the world of journalism could see the fraud. He’s only 33 now, so won CNNs award when he was 28.
Obama advisor Ben Rhodes was right on how easy it was to ‘sell’ Obamacare: they’re mostly 30ish, have NO real world experience, and will believe anything.

The award still fits.
He faked a story about a militia in Arizona protecting the US border.
He faked a story about a girl working in a sweat shop in Turkey.
He faked a story of suicide bombers.
He faked a story about American football.
The list goes on. He won awards for many.
Prolly went to the Martin Gansberg/Abe Rosenthal* school of journalism.
Fake news, especially as practiced at the NY Times, is NOT new.
*...Gansberg was the reporter and Rosenthal the editor for the NY Times story of the Kitty Genovese murder. I’m sure you ALL know of their lies, like the “fact” that 38 NYers witnessed the attacks and did nothing so as to “not get involved”. Other “journalists” at the time privately doubted Gansberg’s story, but feared retribution if they questioned the venerable NY Times.
Give that man the “Dan Rather Award For Integrity in Reporting!”
Really, who does he think he works for, CBS?
He and Brian Williams can get together and go bowling.
No but he probably will after this.
