You may say I'm a cynic, but I'm not the only one: "Imagine" is highlight of Times Square
American Thinker ^ | 12/29/2018 | Stu Tarlowe

I've just heard it announced that one of the "highlights" of the New Year's Eve celebration in NYC's Times Square will be a performance of John Lennon's "Imagine," this time by one Bebe Rexha.  I'll admit to being "culturally deprived"; I've never heard of that person.  And it turns out that "Imagine" has been performed at other Times Square New Year's Eve celebrations since 2005 (2012 and 2016, for example, by other performers of whom I'd never heard), with videos of the crowds enthusiastically waving their arms and singing along.

Now, I'm a big fan of The Beatles, and I happen to think John Lennon was a musical genius, and I'm still sad and angry at his having been murdered in front of his home on Central Park West in December of 1980.  And I've even visited "Strawberry Fields," the shrine to him just inside Central Park from the spot where he was gunned down.

And I think "Imagine" is a great song, musically speaking.  Content-wise, I'm not that crazy about it.  For anyone unfamiliar with the lyrics, they are as follows:

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky

Imagine all the people living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too

Imagine all the people living life in peace

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

I really dislike Lennon’s alleged Christmas song too.

Imagine there’s no choice,
It’s easy when your free will dies.
No decisions to be made,
Only orders to be obeyed.
Life under globalist communism will end all of your petty dispute.
Your masters won’t tolerate dissent, they’ll just give you the boot.

The film, THE KILLING FIELDS closes with that tune and it is a shame because the Khmer Rouge believed that atheist BS and the film depicts the terror they brought.

...

Lennon always wanted to write a melody as good as McCartney’s Yesterday, and he considered Imagine to be it. The words were secondary.

the KR insurgency gained power and eventually took over. No more rock ‘n’ roll, no more anything. By some estimates as many as three million Cambodians were killed by their own countrymen, a quarter of the country’s population.

Cities were emptied out, “bourgeois” citizens were eliminated (including teachers, writers, or anyone who so much as wore glasses), and the entire country was forced into farm labor in an effort to stamp out “corrupt” influences. Pop records were burned; the KR instead elevated rural folk songs. Former popsters who managed to live through the terror still have a shocked expression on their faces today. As they tell their stories, the film’s music and montage combine for a strong emotional effect, reflecting the guilty sadness of those who lived.

Yep they always feature that song at New Year’s Eve.

I wonder why the powers that be chose it. Are we supposed to dream of an atheist world to come in the new year? Are we supposed to dream of world peace in the new year? I never knew why they picked that song as some new year anthem.

Even Auld Lang Syne has more of a rockin’ rhythm than Imagine.

Worst new year’s eve part song evah.

People have always misinterpreted this song. Lennon was singing about the things people fight about only., and his inclination was always to shock with his music. Of course atheists etc seized on this to proclaim that anything from history must be annulled. Ridiculous then, ridiculous now.

Here’s some better lyrics;

“Imagine a bullet proof vest...”

“Imagine standing behind Yoko
when a crazed fan shows up...”

‘Temple of Baal’ goes up in New York, London

EXCERPT...

March 20, 2016: WND reported visitors in April to Times Square in New York or Leicester Square in London were in for a culture shock – a life-size reproduction of the Temple of Baal.

Needless to say, the exhibition of a symbol of paganism, child sacrifice and ritual prostitution – well-known to readers of the Bible – raised concerns.

The display, however, was part of World Heritage Week and was meant by organizers from the Institute of Digital Archaeology as a statement of “defiance” against ISIS, the Islamic terror group, that destroyed the Temple of Baal in Palmyra, Syria, in August 2015.

The original structure, dedicated to the god Bel, or Baal, in A.D. 32 – approximately the time of the crucifixion of Jesus – stood nearly 2,000 years before ISIS leveled the site along with many others. Prior to the current war in Syria, the ancient site had over 150,000 visitors a year. Using a database of thousands of images, the Institute for Digital Archaeology created a full-sized, 50-foot tall, 3D-printed replica of the entrance arch to the temple. The work was done in China. Only the replica of the arch was displayed.

The Bible’s Old Testament frequently condemns the worship of false idols, with Baal – which means “Lord” – most often singled out. Baal worship, common in the biblical Levant, spread across the Mediterranean, becoming dominant in North Africa’s Carthage, where archaeologists have excavated an extensive cemetery with remains of sacrificed children. The name of the famous Carthaginian leader, Hannibal, is made up in part of the name “Baal.”

Michael Snyder, writing on the blog “End of the American Dream,” alerted his readers to the shocking idea of a pagan temple being erected in Times Square, saying “Most non-religious Americans don’t understand who Baal was, nor do they really care. But the truth is that many of the elements of ancient Baal worship are being mirrored in our society in 2016.

“So considering the child sacrifice and sexual immorality that we are engaged in today, perhaps it is only natural for us to have a Temple of Baal in Times Square.

I love being preached to about love and materialism by a guy who slapped around his first wife, emotionally abandoned his son by the slapped around first wife and lived in the most exclusive/expensive apartment house in NYC.
