Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to President Donald Trump’s Oval Office address Tuesday evening, claiming illegal immigrants “act more American” than proponents of strong border security.
In an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow, Ocasio-Cortez accused President Trump of holding the paychecks of furloughed government workers “hostage” to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border, a proposal the self-avowed Democrat-socialist described as a “campaign fantasy.”
“In the actual address, there was falsehood after falsehood and we have to make sure that we get our facts straight. Everyday immigrants commit crimes at a far lower rate than native-born Americans,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “And not only that but the women and children on that border that are trying to seek refuge and seek opportunity in the United States of America with nothing but the shirt on their backs are acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be.”
The freshman congresswoman alleged, without citing any evidence, that the president has a “proven track record of discrimination against anybody who’s really non-white,” saying that “insane amount of dysfunction” has caused Americans to feel “unsafe.”
“No one should feel unsafe in the United States of America and that includes our amazing and beautiful and productive immigrant community. And moreover, the one thing that the president has not talked about is the fact that he has systematically engaged in the violation of international human rights on our border,” she continued. “He has separated children from their families.”

Don’t remember her or any of her stellar recent illegal immigrants fighting for the US in Vietnam, the Mideast or the Cold War.

Delusional, but also hateful/resentful. She seems to have had a pretty good life in the US, despite all the ‘bad Americans’. Does she think that what exists here exists just because America exists - independent of the people?
It’s as though many of these people look at the US as a watering hole, that just happens to exist, and that we just happen to live here with access to the watering hole - with no role in its existence. Worse, we are selfishly trying to prevent other people from coming to this preexisting watering hole that we’ve contributed nothing to.

If illegals were more American than American’s they would have stayed home and fixed their own country rather than break into ours to screw it up, bypass immigration laws, and cost taxpayers up to $200B a year.

Today it’s overrun with illegals thanks to Bloomberg and DuhBlasio, and without question they are being allowed to vote. The NY Post did a number of articles through the years showing how illegals rip off the city in social services, from getting fake IDs and then getting welfare and food stamps and did anyone do anything about it? Of course not, so it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that they are being used for votes as well and what do we end up with? The US citizen is ignored while the illegal gets a representative. “Oh ICE is racist, abolish ICE, a wall is racist, the President is a white supremacist” exactly the kind of sh*t an illegal would say. To hell with Republicans for allowing this crap to go on for so long.

Just what does “American” mean to AO-C, anyway? Just because kittens were born in the oven of a cold stove, that doesn’t make them biscuits. Being born in the United States does not, in and of itself, make anybody “American”. “American” is an educational process, and it involves first BELIEVING in the words as written of both the Declaration of Independence, and the words in the Constitution of the United States of America, then applying an unwavering loyalty to those words.
This business of “dual citizenship” has not been satisfactorily resolved of late. At one time it was completely unambiguous, as was clarified by Theodore Roosevelt.
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.
