Ginsburg Illness: If Trump Appointee Replaces Supreme Court Justice It Will Be 'Brutal,' (trc)
Newsweek ^ | January 11, 2019

After Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg missed her first oral arguments in more than 25 years on the bench this week while recovering from an operation to remove two cancerous growths from her left lung, many have expressed concern over whether she would return to the bench.

While doctors have said that Ginsburg's recovery time would be "normal" for the procedure she underwent, the 85-year-old's third struggle with cancer comes at a critical time for the Supreme Court. If Ginsburg, who will turn 86 in March, is unable to return to the bench, President Donald Trump would have the chance to nominate a third Supreme Court justice to the highest U.S. court.

RBG would have to die in order for that seat to filled. Otherwise, she can be MIA for as long as she likes or needs to, and I see little being done to un-seat her during that time.

Do they vote with one less liberal vote if she can’t return?

And after RBG is Stephen Breyer, who’s 80 years old and also may soon be approaching the age he steps down.

Dems shot their proverbial wad with Kavanaugh and lost. That was amazingly stupid.

This isn’t a strange or lengthy recovery time for surgery to an 86 year old frail woman. I do not believe she will retire.

Let’s start the hearing process anyway so if Ginny pops, the replacement can be installed the next day.

No. Her staff will vote for her, and then LIE claiming she is still on the job.

She should retire.

We will see a rerun of the Kavanaugh debacle, if she leaves the court.

Remind all liberals, that elections have consequences. Remind liberals that their icon Obama said that.

And remind them that the president nominates judges to federal courts, under our system. The liberals aren’t going to say that our system of picking judges is wrong, are they?

Unless they go to the nominee’s house and burn it down, I’m hard pressed to think how much more brutal it could be

Correct-If you don’t like this President and you SO resent his right to appoint, then get your act together and get yourselves elected into the next WH.... GOOD LUCK!!

We do it that way because we FOLLOW the rules... we don’t CHANGE the rules

Do Liberals honestly think Conservatives the 8 - year long “O” nightmare we endured? Pleeease!

Yes.

Any 4-4 goes back to the lower court as an unchallenged decision.

The liberals aren’t going to say that our system of picking judges is wrong, are they?

I can picture it now: Pelousy and Shoomer in a joint press conference announcing that the House should have a turn at "advise and consent". It's only fair, after all these 230 years.

Amy Coney Barrett will be the next Justice. She’s more conservative than either Kavanaugh or Gorsuch.

As long as she doesn't participate in hearing the arguments, she shouldn't be allowed to vote or rule on the case.

Thus, one less liberal vote "should" help America's cause.
